Can wax or glaze lessen the durability of sealant?

I am planning to either add a layer of Danase Wet Glaze between my 2nd and 3rd Ultima Guard layers or use a carnuba wax at the end. Not sure which yet.

Can the DWG lessen the durability of, or weaken my sealant?

Thank you!

I personally do not put glazes in between layers. I would finish the Ultima Guard Layers and then put your favorite nuba on top.

Thanks for you input-I appreciate all I can get!

Here is a thread I found doing a search...

Might be helpfull to other people looking at this topic.

I wish I could find a test with Ultima/nuba vs. Ultima vs. Ultima/DWG! I might have to do this some time in the future.Im the MAN

The reasoning behind what I do is that I always want to have a strong foundation for my finish. If I put a sealant on that is meant to last a long time, I do not want it sitting on top of a less durable glaze.

After claying and polishing, I lay down sealant layers first then put on the softer, shinier stuff :)

Sealants are typically stronger and more durable than waxes, which is why people usually do one or two base coats of sealant, and then top with a beauty wax. The beauty wax will wear down much sooner so people like to just apply another coat once every few weeks to refresh the wax.

You guys are starting to turn me towards that wax but I keep thinking dust will stick to it more.

You guys both have very good points-

what about dust sticking to the wax more than it would with DWG? Any truth to that?

It kind of depends on your products too. I spoke with Jerry in the Duragloss lab and he suggests NOT topping their 501 or 105 sealants/poishes with carnuba. He said that the base oils in many of the carnubas can actually compromise the polys in his product and detract from it's longevity. If you are topping his sealants with anything, he suggests using their AW as it is made from the same poly bases.

For those who disagree... he said to test it yourself. Put on your 501 or 105 and top one side of your hood with a carnuba and leave the other side alone. He promises the side without the carnuba will last longer.

Again, Jerry works in the Duragloss lab and says you wont' get any closer to knowing the products reactions than he does.

I have seen no appreciable loss of durability on a properly cured sealant being topped with pure wax, but then again I dont usually allow enough time before the "next" product is ready to be tested and far before durability is challenged.

I understand. My reply was based on Duragloss product line and talking with their lead person in the research lab (Jerry). I have to assume he's more up on that product than us... but again, this was in regards to the Duragloss line, no others. I am going to take him at his word and do the whole rig with 501/105 and then after it cures for 24 hours, top one side of the hood with Pinnacle Sovereign Carnauba and see it for myself.

After all the research I did and the information from all of you (I very much appreciate it!) and also seeing my car with the second coat of UPGP tonight I am going to skip the DWG or Souveran for now. I am really excited about how she's looking now! At some point however I will test them with Ultima.
