Can we talk honestly

i'm gonna have to start hiding this website from the boss. on it all day

I employed (or thought of employing) many of the methods discussed in this thread...then came DAVE.

My wife has our entire family drinking the Dave Ramsey kool aid and thus - with the envelope system of spending (look it up) - I must now budget my AutoGeek purchases far in advance.

Oh well, I guess I must now "live like no one else to later live like no one else." AG - look for some bulk orders from me in about 2 - 5 years.

Not presently married (divorced for other than these reasons) not independantly wealthy either. What I do know is I am not going to build ANY relationship with ANYONE who lies to me even about the littlest things. I also am not going to lie to someone I am trying to build a lasting relationship with.

As a PP said "look at the divorce rate" yeah LOOK AT IT, wanna know one of the biggest reasons for divorce in this country??? MONEY FIGHTS AND MONEY PROBLEMS. Wanna know what contributes to that>>>>> HIDING purchases from your SO!!! LOL so excuse it all you want and laugh about it all you want, good for you, your relationship is built on lies and deciet, you lie to your spouse and get away with it for now. Congrats.

As I said a little earlier:
If the bills are paid on time and the finances are somewhat in order for the most part (notice I said somewhat in order for the most part) how bad is it that my wife hides a pair of shoes or an occasional dress. Besides If I know about it, it ani't hiding. I think the same goes for my car products. Things could be much worse. I tell my wife "listen dear, I don't hang out at strip bars all night, I don't do drugs, I don't cheat, you don't have to bail me out of jail. If I'm online with my AG friends or in the garage with the cars you know where I am. For all that I am, look at all that I'm not." "Now leave me alone I gotta get this 915 off before it's impossible to remove. LOL

If she hides a pair of shoes or I hide a bottle of wax, just so long that's the worst of it.
If there is something way much more, I won't look unless I'm prepared to deal with the worst of it.

Back in high school when kids would look into other kids bags we had a saying.

"If you saw a picture of you mother naked in there, you'd be wishing you never looked".

This much is true. If it's worse than a pair of shoes I'd better not look until I'm really ready.

"Honey, how do I look in this dress?"
You've never had to eat that one?

"Darling, can we afford this (thing)?"
You know it's squeezing the budget, but who can say no when she's giving you that look?

"Honey, you know I don't know much about that type of thing.. We should really call in an expert."
Seriously, I just don't have time and don't wanna have to buy yet another tool that in only gonna use once.. Is that really so horrible? lol

"My love, your mother is an absolute gem! I always look forward to her visits!"
Cmon, you've gotta give me that one..

Happy wife, happy life, bub. Silly goose

I love it! :D

Another thing that really gets um', (which I found out less than 5 years into our 35+ year marriage) is when she wants to argue you say;

"Yes dear", and she'll keep it up, then you say "yes dear" and just nod, after 3 or 4 "yes dear's" she will FLIP the F out! As they say, "It takes two to tango" and once you drop out they'll almost choke on their shoes when the only response is "yes dear".
Im the MAN

LMAO! you must be my brother....using a different location to throw off his other half!

My brother's name IS Tony and we talk about those famous 2 words "yes dear"

If I say it more than once she goes into histerics! Love it! :dblthumb2:

I'm not in the habit of hiding things from my wife. However, girlfriend, boyfriend, significant other, all bets are off then. It's none of their business. (Not that I'm still bitter about past relationships or anything. Just saying.)

Exactly! There is one rule we've always lived by; You can window shop, but don't leave your nose prints on the glass! (Some say don't break the glass btw) ;)

I'm gonna take a wild stab in the dark that you're not married. Just a guess. Otherwise you would know exactly how it is with what everyone is saying. That or your spouse doesn't really care and you have all the money in the world flowing freely to just drop on whatever you desire. All I know is if I would have found AG before I met my wife I would have had a stupid collection of all the best stuff. Before I met her I lived at home with my parents, had $800 a month in expenses at most and made $2000 a month. Do the math and that is a lot of extra money that I still to this day couldn't tell you where it went. That is until I got something better to spend my money on. I've been with her for 4 1/2 years now, got married last June, and love her to death. As long as I round up some side work she doesn't say a whole lot when I "need" to buy more "supplies" lol.

BTW, this thread is a riot to hear all the different "methods" we use lol.

Ha, when I lived at home my Dad made me pay rent because I had union job at 16, 2 cars at 18, was on my 4th car, (totaled the first one) 2 sitting in the driveway and had 2 bikes (Kaw 900 / Honda 360) sitting out front. So yes.... I blew a LOT of money back then.

We spend 'our' money since day one. I might have another account here and there along the way whether it was for one of my businesses or hers, even another personal account but it's still hers as much as mine.

The problem people have these days is "mine". Screw that, it's "ours" and learn to love how that feels. If you make money it's together, if you are in debt then that's together too.

The MOST important thing that kids getting married can't wrap their head around (well older people as well for that matter) is never NEVER go to bed angry EVER! Whatever you might have been upset about, speak your freaking peace and forget it. Tomorrow is a new day and we don't have time to drag old baggage around with us. It's nuts to pull up stuff from days, weeks, months, YEARS past when one blows their top. (And trust me, one couple we've known for over 30 years, the wife has Cajun blood and THAT woman can fuss and fight but for the way the husband is he just forgets about it and it works. Now she'll still bring up old stuff but at least he doesn't. And.... both of them were married before they met but have been together all this time and will always be.)

Q: Does this dress make my butt look big?
A: I've never seen a butt I don't like. :D

On the tool thing.... I'm usually gonna' buy the tool. (Jus' sayin'....)

Can we afford this?
As we dropped our pen to paper to finance a hot tub! (10 years ago btw)
Although.... if we COULD afford it my back REALLY needs a new one now! :D

What can I say? ;)

I've told many a young couple that and they come back to me later just amazed at how well it works.

Like I said in another answer, I learned something (or taught myself actually) that is; Never go to bed angry! Did it from day one and it still works. (Although after 30 years or so I started slipping a little but I - to this day - refuse to wake up with whatever might have happened yesterday on my mind. Just doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. :dunno:

And so you see, "truth" is indeed relative. :props:

I'm single now don't have to hide sh**. Good thing because I have just started my own detailing now, after my buddy that did it for me passed away, and I am totally hooked. I think I found the right hobby with the rest of you OCD people. Haha. Might try to make a living at it some day. My name is Jim and I'm addicted to detailing!

Sorry you lost your buddy. I think you're right about us OCD people. I come to the AG post site to know I'm not alone. Whenever I think I may be going too crazy with this stuff, I come here and I feel better. I feel normal.

I saw a movie once where someone said:

"Sometimes there's an understanding between a man and a woman that nobody else understands"

How true is that?

I swear your my kin........I'm on my second marriage going on 17 years and I follow this train of thought to the tee.!

One might not know it, but I'm actually the only one in my family that hasn't been divorced. (mom, her 2 girls, dad, his girl, youger (deceased) brother even)
I was bound and determined not to repeat their mistakes. ;)

And so you see, "truth" is indeed relative. :props:

Yes indeed it is. "Did you have a good day today?" means something entirely different to a cronic pain patient (me) than it does to a guy that drives a rollback 12 hours a day (also me but that stopped 10 years ago).

I'd say whoever wrote that... has an 'understanding' for SURE!
