Can you polish paint to much?

I believe polishing with a buffer removes a very small amount of paint/clear each time, is it possible to actually polish your car to much whereby you are continually removing more and more paint or clear coat? I would assume it would depend on how aggressive the products used are.
The products I have been using lately are Menzerna PF 2500 followed with UF5000 then Menzerna sealing wax applied with a DA machine.
I have tried searching and found no answers
 
The short answer is yes you can. You are right in that if you get too aggressive too often you can not only cut through the clear all together but you can also cut and polish the clear too thin and cause clear coat failure.
 
Providing the products and pads are not aggressive would you say it's safe to machine polish every couple of months?
Thinking of trying Chemical Guys Black Light and V7 next as I've read nothing but good reports on dark cars. I beleive the Black Light is not that aggressive
 
If By polishing you mean using BlackLight with a Black finishing pad on a DA, then yes, you can polish all day long every day of the year :)

Blacklight has 0 cutting power, it is not a polishing compound, it is a glaze/sealant hybrid.
 
If you using pads/products with no cutting then you are A-Okay!

There shouldn't be any need to polish with cutting pads and products provided you are taking the steps to properly wash and wax your car (ie not inducing new swirls)
 
Blacklight has very fine nano abrasives but using little to no pressure with a DA and a black or blue pad will be fine.

I'd check out Sonus Swirlbuster. It's a unique product as it polishes without removing clearcoat but it also backfiils with an acrylic based filler that doesn't wash off and can be topped with any sealant or wax. I think products like this will become more popular as correcting becomes less and less an option.

You just sold me I have a Nissan and I know there clear coat is thin I don't have a driveway I'm worried about clear coat failure.. To bad I bought everything already lol!!! Do u sell sonus or r just a strong believer
