Can you review our prices?

Things like that have to be figured in for. Lol im not going to go back and forth on something im not truly concerned about. I know i make a living and accounting for money going out i know what i have to make in order for my business to afford paying me along with it making money for its self. If it cant afford my wages then its time to look into why and make a change or hang it up.

Good luck op

Not exactly. You need to know your net profit on each job from a cost of goods standpoint, and then know your expenses, and forecast how many jobs you need to complete to cover your expenses. If you put it all together you run the risk of not covering your expenses or making the money you need to make to live.

I am not on my computer so I can't show examples, but mixing hard expenses you have to pay regardless if you get paid, and the expenses that you only incur if you complete a job, and looking at them as one number can cause issues.

In a service based cleaning business products like compound, polish, towels, pads, cleaning chemicals, and even tools are considered variable expenses. The amount you use will vary depending on how many jobs you do each day/week/month.

Other expenses like car payment, insurance, business insurance, state and local licensing, etc are fixed costs. These will stay roughly the same and will cost you the same regardless of if you do 1 job a week or 50.

The trick is to design your business to quickly scale up to cover your fixed costs, expenses and labor (you need to include yourself in the labor cost, you don't want to work for free). Once you find this point you have found your break even point. This is important because it gives you a goal that says "I need to make this much money to cover the operational costs of my business." Once your get above your break even point you are maximizing your profit potential with each subsequent service you deliver.

Figure out these numbers. If you don't know what they are you don't have a business, you have a hobby in detailing cars that could be costing you money rather than earning you money.

Seriously your pricing seems outrageously low. I hope you aren't near me- you'll put us all out of business with those prices!

I don't even start my pricing until $60 for a quick waterless wash and I've never even done that. Almost everything I do is at $200 or more.

The key is finding your demographic. But beware- once you do, if your pricing is not sustainable, it can be very hard to raise your prices on those clients.

If your willing to work for next to nothing for the sake of building your clientele, do a Groupon or Amazon Local deal. You would still make more money than you are now, and you'll get more business if you do great work.

You say you do quick waterless washes for $60. What do you mean by quick? If you do not mind, can you tell us how long you would spend on a quick waterless wash on a customers car for $60?

Oops- I meant rinseless. Yes I offer rinseless washes for $60. I only offer it to clients in the winter, they must be repeat customers, and I must have winterized within 6-8 weeks prior. Yes it's cheap, but I build it into the price of of the detail I sell them in the fall. So, technically I don't do it for $60- which I why I said I have never even done one. I do 2 details- one that takes a long time for more money, and one that takes less time for less money. In the end, the client gets a clean car which is all they wanted. :xyxthumbs:

Doing Rinseless Washes for $60 is a really good price. Do you mind sharing how long it takes you to a Rinseless?. I have heard that some detailers can do Rinseless Washes in 12 minutes or less.

About half hour to an hour depending on different factors.

If they are paying $60, the last thing you want to do is rush through it in 15 minutes. Id take my time so they feel like they got their moneys worth.

Bahh, I don't like this mind set!! Complain if I do a crappy job, complain if I don't get done in time, complain if I overcharge for a mediocre service, but don't complain because I am skilled, fast, efficient, and experienced!
