I wash my new car at least once a week with a foam cannon 90 % of the time. I use CG honey dew soap. If hand washed, I use the two bucket method with grit guards. The car is treated with Permanon plat not wax. Is this harmful to paint?

Not really but the more you wash the more change of marring the paint. It's up to you really I wash mine once a week in summer or every two weeks. In winter I wash my 2 to 3 times a month.

The car is my DD except when it's raining. What do you guys think about just a rinse and blowdry?

Prologue:
When it comes to keeping a vehicle: clean&shiny...
There are, obviously, differences in standards that exist among vehicle owners.

I.
Since fallout consists of 'materials' such as: environmental/man-made contaminates; and, road contaminates
consisting of 'materials' such as: tire rubber, road oils, dirt, bugs, etc...
And are often difficult to remove from a vehicle's surfaces...

Then...For a car-washing-session to be most successful, in the attempt to remove these contaminates,
will usually involve a rubbing/agitation-action during the vehicle washing regimen.

II.
IMHO...No car wash "shampoo" will be able to totally circumferentially encapsulate all of the contaminates' surface areas...

This is where the rubbing/agitation process mentioned above will, in many cases, be better described as being: Abrasive by Nature.

Epilogue:
Therefore...I ask myself:

-Isn't such an abrasive action a precursor to paint blemishes (swirls, scratches...and their ilk)?

-How often do I wish to take this: "Risk to Inflict"?!?!

Moderation is a good rule of thumb in everything. Too much of a good thing can be harmful is another good rule. Wash the car only when it is dirty and what is meant by "dirty" is up to you. If it is not "dirty" by your standards why wash it? I don't know what the rules are for others but that seems to make sense to me.

^^^ So I have something to ask (and this is my first post BTW)... If you have a good coat of sealant and/or wax, and your car becomes a dirty, but not enough that it merits a wash... Wouldn't that layer of "dirt" eventually break through the wax and affect your paint more than if you just wash it every week?

I'm trying to gauge, because I'm the type that washed every week.
