Hey guys, I am new to this forum. I am interested in buying a car polisher, but I have never done this before and basically I am not sure which type, model to buy? Can someone please help me out? Do I need orbital or rotary?

I went with the PC7424XP and 5.5 pads. It seems to be the easiest to use as well as the least likely to damage your paint.:xyxthumbs:

You question comes up often and the easiest tool to learn how to use and master is one of the DA style polishers, as swami shared, we just posted a video that goes over all the primary differences between the tools plus you get to see them up close and each one is turned on and used to briefly polish the paint on a 2010 Camaro.

I started out the with pc7424, and just recently bought the flex3401. I love them both, they are a great combo to have, and very easy to use and handle.
 
Most start out with an orbital (PC-XP, G110v.2, Griots or Flex 3401) best best is to consider the kits as they offer alot of value and all the other items needed.
 
As far as the Flex goes, Why do people choose the 3401 over the light weight 3403?
 
This isn't much help but I use both styles and find that both the rotary and DA styles have there place. some say that for a beginner the DA is a wiser choice and I would tend to agree. When I started detailing and finishing the DA type hadn't even been thought of so only the rotary was available.

Well I did it, just dated myself!! LOL

Rotary - Makita 9227 great machine, most aggressive
DA - Flex 3401 great machine, heavier with lots of power
DA - Porter Cable 7424 great machine, decent power, lighter of the 3
