These pads look interesting. I am not a paint and body repair guy. I have a blk 2001Vette that I've been thinking about getting the orange peel smoothed out .
Could i do this myself using these pads? I have a PC7424XP.
Has anyone used these pads?
How are these pads used?
What kind of compound / polish is used?

Thank you

Pads sound interesting, I'd like to know if anyone has used them as well?

Mike Phillips has an article about these pads. I have used them with pretty nice results, but I didn't use a PC type polisher. I used a flex 3401, and it worked really well.

-I definitely wouldn't use the denim pads on OEM paint!!

-And: I'd think it over VERY carefully before even using the velvet pads on any OEM paint..Let alone 13-14 year old OEM paint.

That's just how I am.

I agree with that. I've only used them on panels I had repainted on my truck, that got deep scratches from my wife who put a box on my hood. Staples and paint don't play well together.

Very good point Bob!

As in the article the vehicle Mike worked on was an after market paint so there was room to remove the orange peel.

With OEM paint on average there is only 3.0-4.0 mils of total paint. I believe you can remove up to a .5 mils and be safe but not worth it IMO. That leaves you with less should something happen and you need to polish you will have very little clear fleet at that point.

Thanks Evan.

Plus the OP's 2001 vehicle's CC has probably been polished a few times over the years...

Yes i have polished the paint and looks really good. The car is a garage queen. 13yrs old and only 13k miles. I was just after the show car finish. However I will yield to the good advice given here. An oz of caution is worth a lb of cure.

Agree with Bob here. Don't do it...
