Car Shows

I am wondering everyone's opinion on car shows, I.E: Cars and Coffee and Etc. Basically do you go?

I don't mind going to car shows and my son, even though he is less than 2 years old, shows an interest in cars. I think going to car shows with him would be nice, but I really don't want anyone touching my cars and it seems some people just don't understand "Don't Touch"

I have been to the Cars & Coffee in Irvine, CA; which is about halfway between LA and San Diego

Two Bugatti Veyrons, a couple of real AC Cobras, etc.

There is an older gentleman at the entrance to the "Show Lot" who makes a decision as the car pulls up if it deserves to park in the lot of in the garage

Unless you have something unique or get there at 5am (people do)....you are relegated to the parking garage

Personally, I think it is a good system


I have never attended as a "Detailer" to try to get some business

From what I have seen or the ones I've been to are allot smaller or at least there is no parking garage. Personally i'd rather park out of the way then have people walking by any of my cars.

that think their vehicles are the only ones that are truly
trophy-worthy.

I guess at a certain level, I don't want give people the impression their tasteless mods are drawing attention for the right reasons.

I go to a lot of car shows. I've been to a couple of the cars and coffee out in CA. I can appreciate some of those cars, but for the most part The cars there don't really interest me.

The best event imo you can go to is the Hot Rod Power Tour. Even if you only go to one stop its worth it. Real cars being really driven. There are tons of sights and sounds.

They seam to attract more classics.

Also at smaller shows I usually won something and always let him get the trophy and have his picture taken with it.

The win didn't mean much to me due to the small amount of competition. It meant the world to my son.

It is memories like that I'd like to make with my son. I know of a few small ones and the C&C. Then there are the racer ones, but the cars are either done will or just hobbled together to serve their purpose.

To me if a car is well thought out and you can tell the execution took time and skill, then I can identify with the car. But if it is a bunch of stick on chome, I'm not interested.

Every time I go to car show I need therapy afterwards. I drives me crazy that people think their cars are show cars yet are covered in swirls and scratches, and repaints that have more orange than the produce section. I can't really enjoy them much anymore. Saw a little kid use the hood of a Maserati as a Hot Wheels drag strip today at the Hampton Roads International Auto Show. I was like whatever, it still has DA sanding marks from the factory, and the dealership is just gonna burn the paint off the edges and bumpers anyway.LOL

I agree, all the cars at car shows are almost always clean or detailed to some degree many or most are not to the standard the AG sets. That being said at local shows at least in the Midwest the guys are wrenching/painting/ detailing themselves. A properly tuned carb or fixing a pesky leak is way more important than removing some swirls.
I will walk right past a Perfectly detailed new Camaro or Bugatti to go and look at a swirled out, but overall nice Six Pack 1970 Superbee or Roadrunner. To me detailing a collector car is that final touch that takes it over the top. As long as the owner is not neglecting it to the point that it is degrading the car, it's far more important that the car is in perfect working order and being driven.
Another point is many times if you do see a perfect car at a show it was trailered there. I would rather there be some road rash be on on the car than relegate it to a life of just garage and trailer. Cars are meant to be driven regardless of value.

I go mainly just to hang out with our Camaro club friends

We have a local cars and coffee (hibernation now) in indy. Our club traveled to Michigan for ligenfelters this past summer. Also have done some charity shows and first Friday cruise ins. Could care less about awards. I take my 5 yr old son with me as he loves seeing all the "cool" cars

The last C&C of 2014 I attended. Drizzled most of the time and colder than heck. It was fun hanging out chatting cars though.

We actually hold and organize a Cars & Coffee event in Syracuse. We mainly do it for the love and passion of cars. If you don't want anyone to touch your car, get a sign.

The swirls do drive me crazy as well.

I sponsor and help organize the C&C in Raleigh. The bigger the show the more likely there is to be issues. For the most part, the C&Cs are good because the majority are there because they are car nuts. The shows that are included as parts of a festival or a publicity activity are where you have the problems because it draws the non-car guys who have no respect for them.

I guess when I think carshows I don't think Concourse type shows. I realize that everyone has their own ideas of what matters in the car to them and most fo them aren't as passonate about paint/detailing as I or we are. That being said they can do as the please to their car, just don't touch mine. I don't care about trophies, I have what I feel is nice cars, but they are mostly stock, nothing special.

I go to car shows of every variety whenever possible. My Dad started taking me to them when I was very small, and I've been hooked ever since. Some of the most memorable time I spent with him was wandering the isles of a car show. I've taken my oldest daughter for years, and even at 21 years old we still make it an annual event.

I go to Cars and Coffee regularly, the annual Auto Show, and any small events that pop up in my area. There were a couple of years where I took off time from work and drove the 5~6 hours to see the Chicago Auto Show. Frequently other small events like local art shows, chili cook-offs etc seem to incorporate a car show where owners bring out thier antique/classic cars and hot rods. I love them!
