car soap is glorified hair shampoo

I think I speak for the other guys when I say that we are just taking advantage of cheap jokes, and if V05 works, and you like the results... use it!

(already been said, but I don't want the OP to take the kidding the wrong way, sometimes I do)

:iagree: my apologies to the op.

Once in a while it's fun to take a little something, run with it and have a little fun. :poke:
I don't believe for one minute that anyone that replied in this thread was mean.
Sometimes a little comedic relief from the paint, polish and LSP is a good thing.

pman626, thanks for making everybody's wednesday a little brighter!! Like others said, all in good fun with the jokes. Cheers

I would like to say that I have never bathed with Pinnacle Shampoo...but, honestly, I'd be lying.

Next time your significant others run out of hair removal product, dust off that old can of Turtle Wax and an old microfiber. Wax is wax eh?

Yeah, I have to agree.

Toilet paper was designed and engineered for a specific purpose and we all know what that is. At the same time, sand paper was designed and engineered for a completely different purpose but can also do what the TP was designed to do...

Have you been reading the tread over on DW?

Lusso Auto bathe is a car shampoo that is based off of hair shampoo. And the main argument was if it was safe enough for you to put on your head it would be safe enough for your car as your body is much more sensitive then automotive paint.

One guy goes to say...

In a manner of words, yes.

The hair shampoo will be sold with a few pence profit per bottle. This is done because the big suppliers will make hundred of tonnes in a week so can deal with tiny margins. Car shampoo (or detailling products in general) are not the same. With low volumes and speciality uses, the margins are much much higher. In your example, the hair shampoo makes a few pence, the lusso will almost certainly be making a few pounds.

As for the technical differences... well they do exist even though 90% or more will be identical. All said, the hair shampoo is the specialised product, not the car shampoo. Sorry if it spoil any illusions, but there are no super special ingredients in car shampoos. They are variations on themes which have been with us for a great many years. Maybe one is extra concentrates, maybe another has a special smell, but the products themselves are almost never going to be 'different'. Hair shampoo... well that is a bit more specialised. Hair shampoo will be notably MORE gentle than car shampoo. Contrary to forum belief, chemical health and safety revolves around hazards to humans and we are much more prone to being damaged than paintwork (immerse your hand in water long enough and it will be 'degreased'... i should hope your wax is more resilient!). Moreover, hair shampoo will have specialised additives which bind to proteins, which soften, add gloss and strengthen... don't have much need for these (expensive) additives in car shampoo.

Now I am not suggesting people go out and buy hair shampoo for their vehicles! To be honest, if you want to clean your car on a budget, buy the washing up liquid! It is the same story as hair shampoo but does away with much of the expense due to the speciality. I have yet to see the washing up liquid which will remove wax (even when neat) and really do wonder at some of the comments I read with regards to the horrors of fairy liquid!!

Sorry, but as someone in the industry, that is just not right. It is NOT full of salt. For all its sins, fairy is not at all bad a product and has a high surfactant concentration. With high concentrations comes viscosity. Salt is to change the miscellar structure but is not needed if the viscosity already exists! So if it contains salt, it contains a small amount, certainly a percent or two would be the maximum. Any more and the stuff would be almost solid! Anyhow, take that couple of percent and dissolve it at 1 percent (which would be VERY strong) and you now have a couple of parts of salt in ten thousand parts of water. That isn't much.... especially if you were to check out what might be in the water (which is so commonly ignored!). At that concentration, you might get notable corrosion if you repeatedly dipped and dried metal in it for 100 years, but not washing it a couple of times a week for a few years! Moreover, salt is corrosive but it is not abrasive whilst in solution. It is dissolved, it is not suspended.

I don't expect people to necessarily take heed of what I say but Fairy really is made into a scary product on here. I can guarantee that it would be one of the less dangerous products in your collection if you went detailing with it.

I like the way VO5 helps my paint lay down after blow drying. I don't even need to use a spray after wards. Well, except for one spot..........OOPS! My bad, that's the radio antenna!

Some good info here! :xyxthumbs:

He really does know what hes talking about, but even though what he says is 100% true, I still won't be using hair shampoo or dish soap on cars..

I really like to think that there are SOME oils or proprietary blends added to car soap that give added protection to the surface when removing dirt from the paint.

Because car soap is not designed and marketed for use on humans, they don't need to list or publish any ingredients used, besides the ones that are hazardous to our health, which are published in the MSDS.

In all honesty, I need something a little tougher than hair shampoo. My hair doesn't have road tar, road salt and bug splatter in it... Well, not today anyway.

I know it is a stretch, considering the %'s, but chewing gum often contains carnauba wax.

I sure hope not LOL! On another thought, I might cover myself in some 303 to protect against the sun when I'm out working Im the MAN

Im with you guys in that I wont be using hair shampoo any time soon but the information he presents makes you think twice about specialized products.

In any case, I know hair shampoo is plenty strong if it can remove hair wax/clay/pomade.

I am glad you are all getting a kick out of this.
I am enjoying the jokes myself.

Really though, I use Meguiar's deep crystal car wash. it's cheap, and does the job.

But I also had a bunch of free bottles of VO5 laying around, so i decided to try.
It really knocked the dirt off my wheels effortlessly, and the insect droppings. Wax was still intact.

so it made me wonder..............
Car soaps don't have a list of ingredients on the label, so you don't have any idea what the hell is in them.
But all these soaps must have the same basic composition. "lubricity" is really a non issue, as you're putting so little soap in so much water. It's not like it will give you 1000 grit scratches.

so is it all marketing hype? Isn't hype the reason that products in this world sell for more than they should?
Even Meguiars sells a "car shampoo and conditioner".
Conditioner. Really? What are you conditioning, exactly?

In the end, it seems like expensive hair shampoo. Most of you guys are afraid to use hair shampoo because of what you think it MIGHT do. you don't want to be a guinea pig.

That said, I will probably continue to use Meguiar's car wash, even at double the price of hair shampoo.
Alberto VO5 already makes a fortune selling their hair shampoo, so it's good to support the little guys who make the car soaps.

Did you find any streakiness or spotiness from the VO5?

i am hopeing the reformulated dp waterless wash really help with my itchy scalp
