Hello Autogeek community,

In a few weeks I will be completely cleaning the exterior and interior of my Mercedes E320 (silver), I try to keep my car clean on a regular basis, but never seem to be able to completely detail my car in every tight spot. I will be removing wheels to give them a good clean from the inside since the tight spokes make it impossible to even use a brush to clean it. I was wondering what are the steps in washing a car properly? I will also be claying my car, and using iron x to clean all the brake dust. If someone could list out the steps and products they recommended to use to clean their car, it would help me get a general idea of what to do. Also is engine bay washing a bad thing?

I'd give more help on the washing process but I know there are many other members who can explain it better, just make sure you use a good washmitt and the two bucket method. Also are you looking for advice in just washing or washing all the way to waxing. As to the engine bay it becomes personal preferance. I'm a weekend warrior and I know how to do engine bays but I usually don't because you can do some damage if you don't know what you're doing but the roos can give more help on that

2 bucket method - 2 5 gallon buckets with 2 grit guards. Separate MF mitts (one for wheels/tires and the other for paint...a 3rd if you plan to use a mitt with the IronX). Get a Daytona Speedmaster or Wheel Woolies to clean in between the wheels (there are different sizes). Get a good car shampoo (many including myself prefer DG901/902). Good MF waffle weave drying towels.

Learn a rinseless wash also. There are a few different methods so pick the one you like.

Go watch videos on both of these methods. Plenty to find here on AG or on Autopia-carcare.com
