I am in the process of selling our home. With little ones at home the carpet has taken a beating. Has anyone used APC+ to clean carpets in their home? I have never used this product so I don't know what to expect or what ratio to use. I was thinking of mixing it up in a pump sprayer and using it to pre-treat everything then going over it with a carpet machine. I thought about some light agitation with a brush prior to the machine. Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome. Feed back please

I don't profess to be any expert on Carpet cleaning, but do know some basic guidlines, and I think my suggestions-comments will be fairly sound.

I would say to use products specifically designed for carpet cleaning only. APC, which I assume you mean an all purpose cleaner might be a stronger solution, and there could be possible damage from such.

The other, is virtually all specific Carpet Cleaning Shampoos-Solutions are very low sudsing-foaming. With using any type of APC, and let's say you're using an extraction method, which is what is commonly used, you'll be extracting 5 oz of solution off the carpet, and 5 gallons worth of suds-foam. It could be an absolute nightmare with the wrong products.

A great possibility of leaving a carpet that is nothing but full of soaps that will be virtually impossible to ever fully remove.

There are specially designed spot treating products for high traffic areas, and stains which can be used first. And as well, high traffic areas can be shampooed a 2nd, or 3rd time as well, to remove more dirts in those specific areas. Mark

If you are of the belief that maybe the most commonly available solutions that are sold over the counter (Bissel-Hoover-etc) may be possibly inadequate for severely dirty carpeting, and are wishing perhaps products more aimed at commercial duty cleaning, another alternative for a source would be janitorial supply stores.

Thanks for the advice, APC+ must be some potent stuff. I will probably end up waiting until someone can come clean them for me, they are all booked past the new year. I just need to learn patience.

I used folex on the bad stains and followed up with meguiars apc in my bissell shampooer and the carpets looked new again

APC+ mixed at a 10:1 ratio for a pretreatment in a spray bottle will work. For deeper stains you can also mix it at 4:1 ratio. (Water:APC)

Or APC+ is actually good for extractors as well because of the low sudsing formula. (Says so on the bottle).

When I use it in my extractor I fill it up to the recommended solution line and then fill the rest of the way with water.

I have used APC+ to pretreat carpet in my home before shampooing. My mistake was getting to carpet too wet with the pretreatment. A couple of days later I had orange tinged spots on the carpet. I now use Folex as a pretreatment, diluted 4:1. I spray it on using a pump up sprayer to pretreat small areas just before shampooing. My carpet cleaner, Hoover Platinum, has a scrubbing function with no suction, so I use that to scrub the pretreated area. Next, the Hoover has a spill clean up function, suction but no scrubbing, so I use that to extract as much of the Folex pretreatment as I can. Finally, I shampoo as normal. This process has worked great for me. My 3300 sq ft house has a lot of carpet, light colored carpet and a dog resides here.
