On my DD, I went all Optimum so decided to try going all Carpro on the other DD, a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT in Carbon Blue Metallic.

Products used:

Strong solution of Dawn and OPC
Carpro IronX Gel
Strong CG CW&C
Clay substitute with Dodo Juice Born Slippy
Carpro Eraser (1:1)
Carpro Fixer
Carpro Eraser (1:1)
Carpro Cquartz

Unlike my 2011 Hyundai Sonata, the paint was definitely on the soft side. (It was lightly marred with the clay substitute - a first for me with Born Slippy.) I had polished it out in on Memorial Day so was in excellent shape with only a few light RIDS & virtually no swirling.

Fixer

I was intrigued by the claim that it was a kind of "universal" polish and where you just changed pads to change its cut so, even though I have multiple lifetime's supply of polish, I bought some. My plan of attack was to hit the hood and RIDS (fairly) hard with 5" Megs MF Cutting pads on my PC (on 4.5) and finish out all with a 6" gray pad on my GG6 (on 4). This really worked out well with Fixer. It cut fast on the MF pad (generally only 1 section pass needed) and finished out probably LSP ready. On the gray pad, the finish was nearly flawless.

Only thing to be wary of is overworking and letting it dry. It can be a pain to remove. I found following up with a no-pressure "regenerative" pass or 2 fixed that and it wiped up with little effort. Some dusting but way less than M105. I really liked just swapping polishers on the fly as necessary and using just 1 polish (and cleaning MF).

Completed polishing in 3-4 hours (not counting lunch and visiting with out-of-town family (it was NYD).

Cquartz

Got up this morning and turned the heaters on in the garage to get it to ~65F. A couple of Eraser passes and I applied Cquartz per the instructional videos. All I can say is "Wow!" Looks like it was dipped in glass! Insane gloss and darkened up the paint slightly. Very easy to apply. Only used 5-10ml. There are already many positive reviews of Cquartz on the various forums and I agree.

Unfortunately no befores (only 2 hours of water on Sunday mornings makes that tough - @#$% water restrictions) or in-process.

Excellent writeup and photos! Thanks for sharing with all of us.

Thanks Corey. Means a lot coming from you. Figured I blew all of my credibility with the Dodo Review ;).

That looks FANTASTIC! Great job!

I know what you mean about a lifetime supply of compounds.

But I will probably try this too. Might as well, I have all their other stuff.

You achieved a perfect result and I bet it will still look great at the end of summer.

mjlinane,

1. Excellent write-up and the Tiburon GT does indeed look like it is covered in glass!!
2. Thanks for helping me in the theard earlier today about CQuartz.
3. I have a 2003 WRX with very soft black subaru paint. My paint is in good shape some light to low medium swirling. Would you recommend a white or green pad for a one step with Fixer? How fast did you find it cut with your foam pad (# of passes made for correction)?
4. I have always liked your avatar!!

Drew

Thanks. I found Fixer to cut fast.

If your paint is as soft as you say (and i've read), you will probably need 2 steps - whatever it takes to remove swirls followed by a jewelling step with a black or blue pad. Do a test spot with green and see if the swirls are gone (don't worry about it being hazy). If not, step up to white or orange. If it is hazy, do the second pass with black.

If I didn't know better I'd say you were having some great success with the CarPro line! :props:

The Hyundai looks gorgeous and the reflection shots clearly show how nice a car can look with some hard work, skill, and great products...:props:
