Carpro Perl - 1st use, quik review

What is the "shine" like with Optibond and how's the durability??

while it's not terrible, it didn't impress me enough to keep using it after using about a half bottle before trading/giving it away...

Visitor went way longer with it than I did. I still have my bottle, almost full. Used like twice on tires. Did some testing on some trim. Stopped using it after that.

I haven’t used Perl much lately, I still have about half left in my original bottle diluted 1:1

I’ve gone back to Meguiars Hyper Dressing... If I had to describe why I’d say it’s because I feel like D170 is a bit easier to work with + I feel like I can be as liberal as I want with it without thinking about how much I might be using [even @1:1] compared to Perl which is much more expensive and IMO, while it does look fine on tires, doesn’t look quite as good as Hyper Dressing..

I love CarPro Perl and use it 3:1 on tires. It's amazing to me how durable Perl is compared to other water based dressings, especially on tires that have been thoroughly cleaned with OPC (3:1) or Mckee's Tire & Rubber Cleaner. Perl is the best option IMO for guys like me who prefer a satin black tire with zero shine from day 1. What sets Perl apart from Hyper Dressing is that it maintains the same deep black satin finish for over a month and doesn't wash away in the rain. If you are looking for a dressing that is "shiny" on application and stays "shiny" I don't think Perl is the best option.

That’s spot on how I feel about Hyper Dressing. I last dressed the tires on the Kia 9 days ago, and they’re to the point where they stay looking at least this way non stop. They can easily go over a month.

I can’t speak for interior use, as I’ve been stuck on a couple of new interior products I’ve recently tried and haven’t gotten around to trying Perl for that..

What brush is that you are using?

It’s not available on AG, but just search flagged tipped brush on the bay and you can find it. It’s the only applicator I’ll ever use and I’ve tried alot.

Hey El is that brush soft? What do you use on low profiles? Sorry I forget your dilution for Hyper is 1:1?

Yea it’s sort of soft.. It’s said to be a body and fender brush that’s safe to use to wash paint, but I’ve never used it for that nor would I.

I use that brush to dress all tires including low profiles, just feather the brush around the tire, if a little bit of the brush doesn’t come in contact with sidewall it’s no problem.

Correct 1:1 dilution on Hyper Dressing.

If it doesn't rain!

If it doesn't rain!

It’s somewhat rare for us to get rain down here in Southern California, so I honestly can’t say I’ve monitored it’s performance through rain.. I’ll be sure to post my findings next time it does, but I don’t think tires dressed with Hyper Dressing will suddenly lose their dark appearance just because of rain water... If they won’t loose it after being sprayed with Super Degreaser, then how’s a little rain supposed to do it?

Right or wrong, I’ll be sure to post my findings next time we get some rain in the forecast, you can count on it.

Completely agree with you. I find perl to last longer than hyper dressing and look better than hyper dressing. After 2 weeks hyper dressing was splotchy on my tires. Thanks to another member for sending me some hyper dressing to play with which pretty much saved me from buying a gallon of it.

:iagree: ever since i started to use PERL, i don't both with hyper dressing anymore. IMO though, using it undiluted is a waste of product and at 1:1 it works really well on tires IME...

I use it undiluted after a deep clean to have a solid base layer and maintain it at 1:1. Seems to work very well.

Also works good on interiors.

Thanks sir, came through again.

If you drove in the rain for 30 min. twice, HD will be gone.

Hyper Dressing is such a great value I dilute it 5:1 and use it as my dedicated wheel well and engine bay dressing. I save Carpro perl to use as my dedicated tire dressing. If I was only detailing my own personal vehicle I would definitely just buy Carpro Perl. I really wish AG would start selling Carpro Perl by the gallon.

agreed. i bought megs water based dressing (gallon) before it was discontinued (it was cheap as well) and use that mainly for just wheel wells at 1:1 even though i could possibly stretch it 2/3:1 (it's recommended to use it at 1:1 or undiluted) for that purpose as i consider it throw away product for that area. using PERL undiluted at full strength is a waste IMO as 1:1 works really well on tires IME (though some like it full strength) and 3:1 for just about everything else. PERL is definitely a top 10 product for me...
