My ceramic product recommends 12 hrs between coats. Do we see a problem. If I wait 24 hours before the 2nd coat.
Thanks

What coating is it? Should be no problem.

22PLE Hpc.
Small company Detail Image sells it. It gets great review. The only bad thing is the 12 hour wait time in between coats. I was going to put coat 1 on tomorrow. Then coat 2 weds. But if 24 hrs is too long of a wait
between coats. I would wait until I have 2 consecutive days available.
Thanks

They told me 8-12 is recommended but the next day is ok. And they are not that small. I have used all of their coatings.

The times i used that particular coating i waited 24hrs as back then, instructions were 12-24hrs between layers. It was quite inconvenient

Agree. I will do one coat today. But I can’t get to the second coat until weds. So the 24 hrs is good to hear.

If 12~24 hours is the recommended time line, I'd be tempted to wait longer until I had the time to do the job right. At that point, I would wash the car, give it another wipe down with a coating prep, and then coat. For me I could see doing one layer over a weekend and then waiting until the next to do the following layer.

I'm not a coating guy and know very little about them... but from a general engineering perspective if a product specifies 12 hours cure time between coats I would interpret that as meaning 12 hours minimum.

If there was an upper limit then the manufacturer should specify so, e.g., Second coat should be applied after xx hours but prior to xx hours.

In order to be complete, all units of measure specified need defined limits... Min/Max, +/-, from/to, approx, etc.

Failure by manufacturers to provide specified limits results in questions like the one you are asking now.

I've seen a lot of coatings and don't remember any of them stating a max cure time before 2nd coat. It's alway's the min cure time before recoating.

Can’t remember which product I was looking at but it did state second coat after an hour or more than 12 (iirc) so some products do have additional instructions.

*think it was the CQuartz lite I used but can’t remember for sure.

CQuartz UK does say if you can’t get to second coat within an hour, to wait until the next day.

What happens if you can't get to it the next day?

It’s fine to do it later. They just say don’t do it between an hour and 12 hours as that partially cured 1st coat can become cloudy or sticky if you try to lay over it. I’ve heard of people that did the 2nd coat a week later, no issues.

The time line splits.... alternate universe....

I thought there would be a general AGO flogging for laziness and excuses. :)

Says the guy that has been trying to find time to coat his car for almost 3 weeks now.

Thanks for all the info. Being a backyard detailer I work slow and have put countless hours into the prep. Would hate to have a failed application.
