Cg Blacklight....left with holograms

Hey guys....so last year last in fall I did the good Ole strip....clay...wax but threw in a new step. I threw in cg blacklight between the clay and wax. My paint is fairly good with minor micro marring and was and devised blacklight would be a good thing to try as a filler/make up until I bought a polisher.

When I finished the car looks like it had more hologram effect in certain areas I know it wasn't there. It was my last wash before storing. Fast forward a few months of storage and I am here today. The beast, 2010 charger srt8, is getting the first wash today and upon drying the holograms really stood out to me. I will try and add a pic to post but as we all know ow they don't do justice.

My question is how to remedy this? Would stripping reclay and wax simply take it away or does there need to be at least a one step polish step thrown in?

I just recently bought a boss21 with menzerna 400 and 2500... and haven't had a chance to use it. I've never polished before and am looking forward it my first chanxe to use it. I have quite the utilities at my disposal. I just need someone to guide me to correction for my current dilemma

I hung up Blacklight a long time ago for other products but one thing I can say in defense of it, that damage is not from Blacklight.

This is BL applied by PC DA and topped with Pete's 53, this Honda Ridgeline had never been detailed and this was only my 3rd time ever using my PC. The best advice I can share with you is to revisit your processes.









 
I'd like to know why these sometimes wash induced holograms only happen on black vehicles...
 
I've had instances where Meguiars Gold Class left holograms after the wash, but Meguiars Shampoo Plus on the same car didn't.
 
I've used clay and wax before no issues same steps. I ly difference was I added on black light, which I applied two coats but hand and adhered to the bottle instructions.

For car soap in use cg honeydew snow foam (most times in foam cannon) and use two mitts one for the top half half and one for bottom half....use a two bucket wash and a third bucket just for wheels.

What could've gone wrong.

Are you saying try again and apply with a polisher this time? That should correct it?

Looks like you could've gotten some contaminants on your applicator or clay? Looks like severe marring of some kind. Not consistent with a glaze application.
 
So what is the fix?

If it was the clay or applicator, would it not be more consistent on the vehicle?

I'll add my experience,

Although I have never used blacklight, I use to use a line of products that had a "nano creme" that was exceptionally good on dark colors and was applied either by hand or DA. I used it on my wife's black VW Jetta Sportwagen to "hide" some very minor scratches and topped with collinite 845.

Within a few washes, I watched the finish deteriorate (similar to OP's post), until the finish was practically where it was when I started 2 months prior. It was literally like the polish and wax washed right off. A few thoughts that came to my mind were:

1. Were the polish and LSP compatible? 845 quitting after only 2 months (for me) seemed like it didn't like sticking to the "nano creme"

2. Are you looking for your "polish" to actually polish (abrade the surface and physically remove below surface defects), or just "fill." Since my experience with said "nano creme," I prefer (when appropriate) to actually correct those defects the first time.

Your GG Boss should eliminate many/ all of those micro scratches with a few nice slow passes and a quality polish (m205, menz PO85d, HD Polish, etc).

Haha that's what I figure too. Just want to make sure I do the right steps is all.

I still feel somehow the black light added holos, whether I applied too much pressure I'm not sure. My mom did call me bam bam as a kid as I couldn't go easy on anything....should've seen me ride the coin horse haha. Just it wasn't this evident prior yo application of blacklight and I've only washed My car twice since and use new micros to speed wipe and my mitts are clean. Was hoping to hear someone else did something similar and had a fix I guess.

I was looking to use it more as a filler, as I was advised my paint was still pretty good. I'm worried maybe between two coatings and it being my first time using, possibly I used too much pressure. Then it would've been used more as a hand polish causing micro marring possibly since I wasn't using it to correct anything and rather just going at it (which isn't what I intended)?

I agree I should've done proper correction but at time did not own a polisher. Just picked one up at tax time and weather is finally giving me some opportunities.

So your thinking I just need a finishing polish? The pf2500 (po203) wouldn't do the trick with a finishing pad? I have grits boss pad set FYI

blacklight didn't do that as the paint was probably marred by an overly aggressive clay compound. Also looks like you used a citrus type of soap/foam that removed everything off the paint. I've used BL quite a bit when I was newer in detailing and it works decent. It just won't give you want (filling in the heavy marring) in your case. Next time use the actual glaze that chemical guys sells, it's glossworkz glaze (I was thoroughly impressed with it), it will fill in most of the marring for you until you have time to do paint correction. All in all, I think you were asking too much out of the BL.
