When I turned 20, I celebrated by breaking into a roach coach and stuffing a pillow case full of chips, candy, and drinks. My father had died suddenly when I was 18, and my mother basically fell off the face of earth.
I loved in my car for 6 or 8 months. I was lucky enough that the dealership I worked at changing oil and washing cars, had a shower in the locker room. Most everyone I worked with knew I was homeless and sleeping in my car, but never made me feel like s@@t about it.
When I had a good week, and my paycheck was over $300, I rented a hotel on a saturday afternoon. I took hot showers, and on occasion, bubble baths. I was the first one to work, and the last one to leave...literally.
Being homeless wasn't a choice I made, but a series of events that were beyond my control. I lived in a 2 story house, had my own car, graduated from high school, and still ended up homeless.
For you to say that being homeless was a choice, Or is a choice, I then ask you to walk 10 feet in my shoes back in 1991.
I don't know the hardships you've had, the struggles you've been through or the problems you've faced, but I do know that, if for some reason, you wind up on your a@@, I won't blame your situation on the choices you made,
