Check this mess out!!!

Ok I just got the story on her. Her friends says she is 67 years old, is a compulsive shopper "hoarder" and buys crap shell never use and shoves it in her car. She owns a new home and gets 3000.00 a month retirement from the railroad company.

I was thinking the same thing. Then again, most homeless people are homeless because they choose to be.

When I turned 20, I celebrated by breaking into a roach coach and stuffing a pillow case full of chips, candy, and drinks. My father had died suddenly when I was 18, and my mother basically fell off the face of earth.

I loved in my car for 6 or 8 months. I was lucky enough that the dealership I worked at changing oil and washing cars, had a shower in the locker room. Most everyone I worked with knew I was homeless and sleeping in my car, but never made me feel like s@@t about it.

When I had a good week, and my paycheck was over $300, I rented a hotel on a saturday afternoon. I took hot showers, and on occasion, bubble baths. I was the first one to work, and the last one to leave...literally.

Being homeless wasn't a choice I made, but a series of events that were beyond my control. I lived in a 2 story house, had my own car, graduated from high school, and still ended up homeless.

For you to say that being homeless was a choice, Or is a choice, I then ask you to walk 10 feet in my shoes back in 1991.

I don't know the hardships you've had, the struggles you've been through or the problems you've faced, but I do know that, if for some reason, you wind up on your a@@, I won't blame your situation on the choices you made,

You know guys, I've pondered giving up my home and just buying a Bugatti and living in it.

Really the only thing holding me back is the lack of rear visibility I would have with my Master Blaster and DAs piled up in the back.

On another note, no I don't believe becoming homeless is a choice for some. Yes, horrible stuff can happen. However, there are so many entitlement programs for food, medical assistance, and shelter that now exist in this land - big daddy government has a way of helping those who want to be helped now a days.

However, if your homeless for like 20 years - it may be your own fault.

Apparently you've never driven a box truck etc.

I have seen cars like that twice, one with the back seat area filled with trash up to the level of the top of the backrest of the front (bench) seat. The other was a small SUV that was full, floor to ceiling, except for the driver's seat. That was in a Pep Boy's parking lot.

I have on occasion, as I recall just like with a bus the mirrors are larger to cover the large blind spots created though you are right you can't see a typical rear view they sure aren't filled with junk to the point you can't check your blind spots like this vehicle. Do you honestly believe this would be safe to drive?

WOW, is all I can say to this comment.
Some people also choose to be jackholes!

I'm surprised how many people run their mouths before they even know someone, or their situation.

Nonsense.

I have worked in church settings for two decades and dealt with everything from DCFS to every human service under the sun and have ministered to hundreds of people in that exact situation.

The amount of assistance out there for the homeless and extremely poor is staggering. From government programs to church resources you can get a roof under your head, just many of the chronic homeless have addictions problems or psychological issues which cause them to want to stay in their current situation. I even knew several people that had good money in their bank accounts but still roamed the streets. Claimed to enjoy the freedom they said that came with it.

Research is in. Do your homework a bit before calling people names. As I said before [MOST] homeless people are homeless because they choose to be.

This is the stupidest thread I've ever had the displeasure of opening. I feel 29% dumber for reading

You may have worked in church settings, but your compassion sounds far from Christian. Who made you the Judge?

Do the mentally ill choose to be mentally ill?

I don't know how long you've been driving, but cars didn't used to have mirrors. We have some pretty strict car inspection regs in my state, but I don't believe mirrors are a requirement. Since you feel strongly about this I suggest you consult with your congressman about getting the gov't to enact rearview camera standards for all those contractor vans on the road with no back windows, because even if they have oversize mirrors, they still can't see directly behind the vehicle.

Yeah, I thought this was going to be a "who has seen the car with the most junk in it" thread, and now we're talking about church and whether Ferrari's are safe to drive since you can't see out the back window.

This lady obviously has a problem. Maybe you should offer her help instead of trying to embarrass her. If she doesn't accept your offer; dust your feet from her mat

Its not a judgement, its a fact. Those that want help can get it(at least in most situations). Many simply do not want to change from the lifestyle they are in.

When resources are limited, you simply cannot help everyone besides trying to show them love and preach Jesus to them. The ones that churches/government programs are able with to help with physical resources need to be the ones that actually want to improve their circumstances, otherwise people will quickly slide back into their old life.

Its sad, its tragic, but its also reality.

Ok you don't seem to grasp what I am saying. Regardless of mirrors you can't check the blind spots with junk piled to the roof. It's not really about rear view but the ability to see more than directly infront of you like your blind spot when changing lanes. If I can't see over my shoulder it's hard to safely change lanes.

And I'm saying there are millions of vehicles on the road that have limited rear visibility, from work trucks to semis to exotics, and maybe you should focus on that instead of this poor lady.

And what I'm saying is that it's not about direct rear visability but the ability to check ones blind spot before changing lanes which is impossible with a car filled with junk but not impossible with other vehicles due to increased size of side view mirrors. You are arguing something that I am not.

I didn't mean for this post to become political or about religion. I just wanted to show everyone how this lady lives. She owns a home and is a compulsive shopper and spends all day buying crap then shoving it in her car and home. She leaves her car parked in different locations for no reason. Her ex husband says he divorced her cause her house was piled with crap she didn't need and she began using the car as storage. She gets over 3000.00 from Santa Fe railroad retirement.

Some people are too proud to ask for help
Some are not mentally capable of knowing how much they really need help

This has been an interesting thread. So many varying opinions
