Chemical Guys Coating Second skin 6

They make some of the best "bang for your buck" soaps out there. And I believe their citrus wash and gloss is one of the, if not the, cheapest.

I also find their prices reasonable on most products. Fro example, their fabric clean comes out to less than $.30 for 32oz.

They have the Citrus wash and clear, Citrus wash and gloss, Maxi Suds, Mr. Pink, and Honeydew Foam,...Wtf are so many products for? I know two that can do different things but the rest is a marketing scheme. They want so many products out there that you will be confused and say "fk it, ill take that one".
Don't get me wrong, I like some of their stuff but way overpriced unless its on sale and you can find comparable one on the market for less.
If you call their staff they don't know #### and you get 3 different answers from three different people every I have called for info. You would think they would hire people who use their products to answer their call on the phone. They should give them a new product each week and make them use it on their own cars so they are "IN THE KNOW" about their own products. But I guess they don't make enough $$ for that.
Their sister company is SMARTWAX so beware if your paying for that stuff. It all comes from the same source.

I would say that the people on the Autogeek Forum are probably the worst at testing durability.

Simple reason is that we can't keep out hands off of our cars long enough to tell you how long anything lasts, especially LSP's.

Have any of you out there really left any coating on your vehicle without topping it in some way with wax, spray wax, spray detailer, gloss enhancing soaps?

The real questions for me have evolved into:

How Fun is it to use?

How good does it make the surface look?

Does it attract Dust?

At my day job, I drive a Toyota Yaris Hatchback everyday and it's washed in the worst possible fashion... well... it was... I just could not use that push brush anymore, it was breaking my heart every time ;) So I purchased a wash mitt for the car I use. I also take personnal time to apply sealant to it from time to time. The paint is already really bad, they had it since 2007 and I got it 6 months ago... so imagine people washing it about 4 times a week with a pushbrush... pretty horrible for the paint...

But! This would be a great vehicle to test LSP on. I think I will start noting what product I use and when. And will only re-apply when there is no longer any beading and sheeting. How does that sound?

I could even keep the log here on Autogeek... If people are interested in me doing that, let me know, I will make a video and take a few pictures every time I apply a new sealant/wax. Tonight I noticed the car was no longer beading so I applyied a layer of Meg's Ultimate Quick Wax. I am curious to see how long it will last on a car used about 5 hours a day. Only thing that is not so great is that the car sits in a garage when not in use so it's protected from the elements 19 hours a day.

Chemical Guys Second Skin 6 long term test - start (on 28.07.2014)

Preparation steps:

Wash and full decontamination.
Light polish with various polishes and pads but mostly with Meguiar's D300 on Rupes yellow pad using Rupes Duetto.
Very thorough degreasing with 4nano Final Wipe and Gtechniq Panel Wipe.

At the end one layer of Chemical Guys Second Skin 6 was applied and the car was in the garage for 48 hours.

Chemical Guys Second Skin 6 long term test - first update (on 30.07.2014)

The behavior of water after 48 hours after application (the car all this time was in the garage). I do not know what to think. The coating is on the car because it is clearly visible - gloss and glass effect. But the water "says" that there is no coating on the car.

A few comments:
- mileage: about 3000-4000 km
- coating is still visible in my opinion
- car gets dirty very little, despite a wide variety of weather conditions (lots of sun, dust, wind and rain)
- coating does not protect against bird drops, traces of the hard / acidic water
- the car wash easily in spite of such a long period of not touching
- no beading and I think this is an advantage especially in the summer
- water sheeting is slow, but exact

I still do not know what to think about this product.
I have to do a second test on a car which is often washed.

Hmmm. Disappointing initial results. Appears to have very poor hydrophobicity and excellent wetting capacity, unfortunately. However, seems to be in line with other CG products, and is on the upper end of the cost spectrum. Would love to see a 6 month test, but I'll stick with 22PLE and Gtechniq for now.
