I've use CGs, DP, and Blackfire. It just seems towels come out the nicest with BF. CGs I liked the least, but its not too bad.
I'm using Smartwax Clean Microfiber, which I've heard is the same as CG's (no proof of that though so someone correct me if I'm wrong). It works well. MF's come out very clean and soft with no pilling or flattening of the fibers (mostly use CG's 'Professional Grade Premium' microfibers). I wash with hot water and then dry on low heat. Haven't tried the vinegar yet.
For years I washed my MF's with whatever regular laundry detergent I was using at the time (Tide, All, or store brands)... they all ended up very stained and the fibers ended up matted and/or feeling rough... I think All Free & Clear would be an okay choice in a pinch since it's what I've used on my clothes for the past couple years and they seem to stay softer than they did with other detergents I've used in the past. But for $10 or $12 for a small bottle of MF wash it's worth it to me to keep my nice towels nice for longer. I figure it's cheaper and easier to take good care of them than to replace them prematurely.
