Chemical Guys Polishing Pads

Ive used Lake Country almost exclusively. Ive tried just about every pad they make and of dozens Ive used, I think I had one pad that separated from the backing material, and that happened when I was spinning it on my polisher at high speed to dry it off after washing it (whoops, those things can fly!). Otherwise they have not let me down.

Not a fan of Chemical Guys products in general. Seems to be more people give them negative reviews than positive. Lots of marketing hype. Although the stripper scent is gold!

In your opinion, do you think the CG scratch and swirl remover or their hybrid compound are garbage?

I had the green pads from Chemical Guys as well, they fell apart after one use

Then I have the two green pads I've used on dozens of compounding jobs since 2013. Oh man they're tore up. Almost all of the hexagons are worn off!

The good pads last forever, but the bogus pads are garbage. This is why I don't roll with CG anymore.

You can get the same great foams here with a flat design. The difference here at AG is that you get genuine Buff and Shine pads every time with the assurance of excellent customer care. Something I never received from the others.

Ive never used those specific products, so I cant comment on them. But given the scores of negative reviews their products and customer service get, I have no intention of trying any of their products either.

a few things could be wrong technique wise, if pads are heating up on first use.

pad is over saturated. either from the polish or whatever you are squirting on the pad.

too much pressure on the pad.

machine speed is too high. faster speed just means more heat. if you need faster correction, use a more aggressive combo.

not switching pads enough. I typically use at least 6 pads on a car. if you don't have lots of pads. maybe clean them on the fly then switch to a cool pad and rotate them back and forth

I actually will politely disagree on the part that all their products are bad. I use a weird array of their products and actually like some of them a lot. The leather cleaner and conditioner being my favorite along with the natural interior protectant shine bright my second favorite.

All very good points sir and appreciate you're input. The odd part is when I use the Lake County pads I almost never have these issues and I use the same setting speed of 6 when compounding and trying to make paint corrections.

For some reason the issues with the pads seem to keep occurring when I'm using the Chemical Guys brand pads but not Lake County pads.

Perhaps I am doing something wrong , I guess I'm going to have to work on my technique but I think the chemical guy pads are going to be a no-go for me

I washed and clay bar the car prior to any paint correction. I had used around 5 pea sized drops of CG scratch and swirl removal on the pad. I had also lubercated the pad with the Pinnicle spray. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong but every CG pad i have ordered they seem to fall apart half way of shirt after the second car I use them on.
Good information into his thread. I don't have an answer beyond what has been shared. I'm not biased I just happen to have made my move in to the world
of buffing with Thier pads. Completely open to using others but have had no issues. The only pads I've tossed out have begun to tear due to me hitting lettering or emblems or In the case of small 4 Inch Ones i've use some on nasty rocker panels/door sills that roll under the car and I didn't want to attempt to clean.

agreed...there are a few of their products that I like a lot.....VRP for one......has proven to be a very good tire dressing in my experience

I also use their micro fiber wash, it's fantastic. And their shampoos are very good imo honeydew, mr. Pink etc.

GC new car shine, stripper scent and micro fiber wash are probably permanent in my detail collection

I have a few of their pads that I'm using as my "learning" pads
