Chicagoland Detail Day is Sept 23rd!

Thanks MadMerc, I'll be the short stocky guy with no hair ontop, probably being real chatty with someone there.

Thank You! I've been wanting to that wax for years! :dblthumb2:

MadMerc, I found a link on that DoDo Juice product and the people that have used it seemed to like it, looking forward to trying it out. Even though the name says machine, since its in a stick form like GG, you could apply it by hand too, right?

BTW, I know we had a general post about where our meet is at but did we ever get an actual addy for it?

It will work just fine by hand.

Is the container like the one Griot's uses for its wax stick? Btw I checked the BOS and its 3/4 full, so you'll get multiple applications of it.

Yes. Looks like a deodorant stick. Supernatural goes pretty far, so you should get a lot of use out of it.
After I bought the Supernatural, I bought my '99 Mercury in metallic red, so I tried out Fusion, and loved the way it made the flake pop better that the Supernatural.

Thanks again MadMerc, looking forward to trying out another new product and my first Dodo Juice experience. The GG BOS is a solid product but will probably not stand up to Fuzion but that goes without saying, right? I've heard that the new GG nuba is supposed to be really good though and I'm going to get some of that in the spring, I've got quite a list for the spring of 2013!

Sadly, will be arriving 3 days too late! Ivan do you open your shop normally for detailers to chill? I can lend a free hand!

I'll be driving down my '04 WRX wagon. It ain't the prettiest but it gets the job done.

Ivan and I discussed a few things for the detail day yesterday. Start time is 10AM, and the end time is sort of open but obviously its a Sunday and some of us would rather not be detailing a car all day on our day off, so we should go for about 3-5 hour or so.

To reiterate, this is NOT a school. There won't a structured lesson plan for the day, we're leaving it very relaxed and open to whatever you guys want to do.

We will have at least one vehicle to work with, if anybody has a vehicle that ISN'T in a highly detailed state and they wouldn't mind having a bunch of strangers work on, speak up. For the sake of not messing up each other's vehicles, we're going to refrain from doing any intensive or aggressive paint correction. I will try and scrounge up a couple of test hood to bring with that people can try more risky machines/products/techniques with.

I really like the idea of bring small bottles of products to trade. I think I'll head over to the dollar store as well and pick some up bottles to fill.

Since it's going to be in the middle of the day I'm thinking we could all chip in and order some pizzas for lunch?

What he said :).

To reiterate a few main points:

1. I'll have one car available as a guinea pig (either a green 98 Civic or black 02 Celica, both of which have bad paint) but if we have about 20 people all wanting to work at once, it's probably a good idea to find a 2nd car. Not a must, but might be good to have 2 to work with.

2. We'll want to get a few tables and a few junk panels, so whoever can help out post up here and we'll be able to assign certain responsibilities to specific people. This way we don't end up with 10 folding tables and 20 junk hoods :). I think Paul (2old2change) said he can bring a couple folding tables, so those of you who do plan on bringing something please repost the list and add next to your name what you plan on bringing. Thanks!

3. Regarding lunch... There aren't many great food places in the area, but there's Sarpinos pizza nearby and it's one place I really like. There's also Subway next door to Sarpinos (both of which are maybe 5 mins away driving) so as Connor said we can just figure things out when everyone's at the shop. I'm thinking it might be best if everyone chips in about $5-10 and we can order a bunch of pizzas, but we'll figure it out.

BTW, I know we had a general post about where our meet is at but did we ever get an actual addy for it?

The shop is called Underground Autosports. Please visit my website Contact page for directions and info on how to locate the shop.

Sadly, will be arriving 3 days too late! Ivan do you open your shop normally for detailers to chill? I can lend a free hand!

I'm typically at the shop working and I rarely hang out there, so this is a scheduled hang out which we might end up doing again. Hopefully you can make it next time.

Lastly, keep in mind guys, please add your name to the list if you plan on coming as that will make it easier to see how many to expect. In short, if your name isn't on the list, it means you're not coming.

Thanks for the addy Ivan and I for one like the idea about the pizza's for sure.

Just finished washing, tar x, iron x, washing, putting a coat of Poorboy's White Diamond, and two coats of Jetseal 109 on the fusion.
Going to have to tackle the interior next Saturday.
Can't wait for the 23rd!

In the event of "mother nature" we'd still be down for this, right? I mean we're inside and all. Also, do we need and/or want a 2nd car? The reason I ask is because I could bring my g/f's 2007 Mazda 6 which is Redfire metallic. Its been a long, hot summer and whenever I would get the time to take it over to my buddy's garage she'd have something going on and its got light swirls but would still be a test bed for showing average swilrs and then the other end orf the spectrum, what do you think Ivan? I'm only bringing this up because someone brought up a 2nd car a couple posts back and wanted to fill a need if need be, that's all, not trying to weasel a detail out of the group.

Also just wanted to remind the group that I'm bringing my 2 buckets w/ grit guards, rinseless wash to do 2 cars, mf glove for cleaning tires/wheels, my Aqua sponge for washing the car and my pair of large Griot's drying towels, so the car wash part of it I've got completely handled. I'll also be bringing my entire detailing tools and products, Klasse, Griot's, DG, BF, etc.

Yes it'll be a rain or shine event as it's inside anyway. As for the 2nd car, you're more than welcome to bring the Mazda so people can use it as a test car. Just confirm it whenever you get a chance so I/we don't try to find another 2nd car. Thanks!

Ok, I'll be bringing the Mazda 6 and its pretty clean but hasn't had a wheel on it since last year but like I said its in pretty good shape, should make a good example to show mild to bad swirls to the group.
