Chicagoland Detail Day...pics and stories!

First off I want to tell everyone that Dave drove all the way from up around Davenport Ia. Now thats dedication. He won a few of the raffles and got some good rotary hands on time. Thanks for sharing the pictures,

ps: Order that rotary yet ? lol.

Yeah, you would think...part of the problem is finding someone who wants a dozen guests they've never met before. Kudos to your host.

Yes it was very nice of Ivan to open up his doors to us. I think I'm safe in speaking for everyone there, the day started off with nine people no one had ever met before, but at the end of the day everyone left with eight new friends!!! You can find a hundreds reasons something won't work if you try.

David go out and get yourself a wheel :xyxthumbs: You're a natural :buffing: I had a great time working with you.

Ditto to what Paul has said here! It was weird being at a "car event" and not even getting into talking about cars too much, that showed me something for sure!

The next event will be even better, there's a lot of great idea's here and we'll put them into motion when the time comes. One in particular, IMO, should be an entire team on one car without stopping, surely we can do that, right?

John, what brand of rinseless wash did you decide on and what size did you get? Also, search Amazon.com for that Aqua sponge too, its cheapest place around and you can get that measureable bucket at any home improvement store. The mf 5 fingered glove for cleaning the tires/wheels I got from Autozone, use up all that rinseless wash before you dump it I say!

I'm going with the ONR in the 32 oz. size. That and a new shelving unit for all of the stuff that I tried that I'm going to purchase in the future!

Here are a few of the pics that I took.
Again, thanks for the great turnout! It was a lot of fun!

Hey John, wait till you make up some QD with it. Actually, I could meet up to give you some KSG to add to the made up QD if you'd like, an enhanced QD!

Hey Paul and everyone else, that Garry Dean quick detailer is awesome! Btw, which tire dressing was that, I see he's got 2 different types?

Sorry Ron but what's OC?

Derto, why not start one up.....go for it!

Larry, I agree, that's the real test for sure!!

Looks and sounds like it was a great day. Wish I could have made it.

Divine Details, I go through your town on occasion, do you have a shop, or work out of your home? Mind if I stop in sometime?

Hey John, tried the DoDo Juice supernatrual stick on the CR-Z yesterday, finishes really nice and it goes on so light you could barely see it, thanks for the trade. BTW, if you go to Griot's website, they've got little tips on applying BOS to your ride, its something like apply a coat and let it sit for a couple hours and apply a 2nd coat right over it and then remove and then there's another one where they say to leave it on for 1 day even, worth checking out. Since its a liquid I'd say to apply it thinly but then again, on your color car, its hard to see if you've even applied it, LOL! I have to say that pearl was poppin' out in the sun last Sunday, clean ride for sure!

Paul, thanks for the info on the tire gel and what OP stands for, silly me, LOL!

Glad you liked it, Roger!!
Thanks for the info on the GG wax. I was going to try it out on my Wife's Windstar. I'll let you know how it goes.

Has anyone tried any of the samples from our detail day yet? If so, what are your thoughts?

The Garry Dean's Detail Juice is great. This I will be purchasing.
I also used the Mother's car wash. As mass-market carwashes go it's about average. I'll stick with Duragloss and CG.
Haven't had a chance to use anything else, yet.

Yeah I really like the Garry Dean detail juice, used it in the sun and it leaves NO haze, very impressive, very easy to use. I gave the carwash soap away because I live in apartment but the Mother's QD is a pretty impressive product as well. I made a thread for the Mother's synthetic wax, reminds me of Meg's NXT 2.0 IMO which isn't a completely bad thing considering its an OTC product.

I think our next meet should be an exchange day, get a couple 2 oz bottles so we can share. I know I would've shared some BFWD for sure and some DG #101 AND # 111 for sure. Based off of how awesome BL finished I ended up buying that as well as the V7 and it will be here Friday. I'll wait till spring to use it though, it will be tempting but I wanna have something new to look forward to in the spring of 2013, well other than warmer temps that is!

The CG Blacklight really looked great on that Mazda! I had never seen a car finished with that before.

I'll have to make the next event. I went to the one in Evansville in '09 and it was great! Mike conducted a Megs Roadshow Class in Indy in 2007 and it was great too!

was your girlfriend happy about the mazda ?

Yes she was and about a month ago I added a layer of DG #111 w/pba to get it ready for winter. I also took it upon myself to get the BL/V7 combo a little while ago and used it on my own car and I must say.....MOST IMPRESSIVE! I also used it on my buddy's silver MS3 and he was blown away with it as well, saying its "more reflective":dblthumb2:

Can't wait for our next detail day and would like a group of about 4 guys or so to tackle a car itself as well as a clinic with hoods/fenders like before for those looking to do that.

Hope all the fellow Chicago-ians had a great holiday! (as well as those from the surrounding states that helped make our event alot of fun!!
