Chinchilla Lint Galore!

It was my belief that auto MF towels are specialized. The right towel for the right job. That's why they sell such a big variety of towels. They have waffle weaves; mainly for windows, cheaper towels for wheels, wheel wells, etc.; drying towels; etc. They have towels in all diiferent sizes; large ones for drying, etc. The Chinchilla is a small towel that even in the description it's made to be used as a final wipe buffing towel. I've noticed on this forum many detailers use different towels for different uses. I don't think that there is really one towels that will do it all (my opinion). I could be totally off base with this but this is my understanding. "The right tool for the right job."
 
It's not AG's fault by any means. They don't make the towels.

But if a towel costs $8 for a 16x16, it shouldn't lint, period.

Even my bulk costco towels don't lint

I agree completely with it not being AG's fault and that for the price, it should not lint.
 
The Chinchilla is one of our most popular towels, evident by the fact that we were out of them for a couple months because the factory couldn't keep it. With a towel this thick and plush, some linting is expected, regardless of the manufacturer. Before using your Chinchilla, or any other microfiber towel for that matter, they should always be washed first using a dedicated microfiber detergent.

I grabbed a handful of Chinchillas off the shelf after seeing this thread, shook them twice, and they didn't lint after that. Washing them before use will only further reduce the chance of future linting.

The Chinchilla is ideal for waterless washes, rinseless washes, and the "final wipe." If you're looking for a towel better suited to Hybrid V7, or any other spray wax/spray sealant, check out the Cobra Gold Plush Jr. :dblthumb2:

IMO the gold plush is the best towel autogeek sells.

The sonus towel would be right up there also except for the fact that it has the tag stitched into it, and its impossible to remove without ripping the border.
 
I have been using the Chinchillas for some time, I always wash towels first and never had a issue. Great towels, I have replaced most of my MF now and all my waterless and rinseless are Chinchillas.

But I just washed my new batch of Chinchillas with gold plush... looks like the dye transferred, is there a way to get the gold towels bright again?
 
I wash on cold and dry on low to no heat. No reason to waste hot water of MFs. As long as you soak em in dawn a bit before you wash them you shouldnt have any problems.
 
Just got my BOGO Chinchilla order yesterday and all six of them are showing signs that they aren't going to hold up. I shook the towels out before washing them and a good bit of excess lint came off of them. I washed them on gentle in warm water and put them through a second rinse cycle to make sure all the mf detergent was out of them. Dried them on low and when I went to pull them out the dryer I could see long strands of lint coming off them. I took two of them to a job yesterday evening and when I started using one to dry of some ONR I noticed lint being left on the paint from the chinchilla mf. After inspecting the mf I noticed a section of fibers missing(about 3" by 3/8-1/2") from it towards one of the corners. I am highly disappointed with these and hope AG is going to look into a better manufacturer, possibly the original if the original chinchillas were of better quality.
 
I have bought a total of 14 chinchillas because I thought they were the greatest towel ever. My opinion has changed, and you are correct the towel does not hold up at all. Speaking of lint.... I am more upset that my 600 plush are linting after multiply washes.
 
Ive had good luck with AG towels. The Griots on the other hand limo to the point of being useless. The green ones
 
Called the the other day and spoke to Rick and told him that two out of six chinchillas were damaged already. Within 5 minutes of the phone call I got an email stating I had a package being shipped to me via USPS. I requested two grey, supreme mfs since they've treated me well with frequent use.
Hope Auto Geek addresses the issues with the chinchillas for I would like to see something a little plusher than the lavender, deluxe mfs and just as durable.
Thinking about trying out some of the other suppliers for ultra plush microfibers.
 
I have had the same experience as most others in this thread. Got 4 chinchillas on BOGO. Washed first and tried them last night. Left noticeable lint. I ended up using them as the wash media for a ONR wash and it did a good job. I just had to make sure I was drying with a different MF. I have had bad luck with long nap Cobra MF's and linting and I think I will just stick with a medium to short nap from now on.

My chinchillas are pretty much useless on black paint now.
 
Going to be using chinchillas I got off the BOGO last week this evening hope I have better luck. Washed and dryed them yesterday there was some lint on the dryer screen from them hope thats not a bad sign.
