Found dead at 52, in his room at the MGM Grand in Detroit last night/this morning after their show. So unfortunate. Thankful that he left so much great music behind.

Songs that truly resonated with me were Birth Ritual, where the low powerful riff was like a bulldozer and it was accompanied by Cornell's absolutely searing vocals. I was blown away by his vocal range in that song. Just when I though it wasn't possible for him to go higher, he proved you wrong.

Next up was Rusty Cage. This song was an excellent driving song, unless you happened to come across an officer who reminded you that you and your accelerator pedal may possibly be enjoying the song a bit too much...

Apparently, his last song was a cover of Zeppelin's In my Time of Dying. Haunting.

Man, this sucks. Music has always been an enormous part of my life, and it stings when one hits close to home. He was extremely influential with a voice that incorporated ferocious beauty and power and raw emotion all into one package. Whether it was in Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, Audioslave or his solo stuff, you knew it.

Another one gone too soon.

My buddy was at the concert last night and even stayed at the MGM too. He texted me pics of his tickets and the Fox sign on his way in.
I was jealous. I awoke this morning to a text from him saying he had just left the MGM and that CC had died. I thought he was joking at first.
Sadly, it wasn't a joke.

Another one of my favorites gone.....

wow... Scott Weiland and now Chris Cornell. that generation of music/artists where there was talent unlike today where most of the music lacks it. RIP Chris Cornell

Sad indeed! R.I.P Chris and thanks for the incredible music.

One of the best grunge/rock vocalists ever. Right up there with Staley, Weiland, Vedder, Cobain... these guys defined a generation of music.

RIP.

just goes to show you that fame and fortune doesn't always make one happy... :(

this sums it up (comment from someone on this topic)...

When you write songs about how rotten and unfair life is, how terrible and painful it is to draw breath each day, sooner or later you might just listen to yourself and say "Goodbye, Cruel World". Now he is at peace.

Horrible, horrible tragedy.

I've been a Soungarden/Chris Cornell fan ever since I heard a demo from what would become the "Ultramega OK" album back in '87

Really sucks he's gone. :(

My buddy, fellow Geek Derek0609, dropped me a txt right before I woke up, stating an RIP and I go over to read it and couldn't believe it!

IMO Soundgarden was a metal band, not grunge but either way what a talent and voice!! Being a huge Sabbath fan check out Soundgarden covering "Into the Void", awesome! I love the song "Jesus Christ Pose" the most from Soundgarden, its a speeding song, tell me how you keep your right foot off of the gas when that song starts ==============

I loved the Audoslave stuff as well, can't remember the actual name of the song right now but I think its called "Original Fire", Tom Marello's effects and Chris' vocals, what a combo, my God! I listened to "Say hello to heaven" today, sounds weird to say that but I just had to hear it today especially.

RIP Chris Cornell

We've lost the world's greatest artists too early and sadly most could have been prevented (MJ, Whitney, Elvis, Joplin, John Bonham, Cobain, Morrison, Prince, etc.) the list just goes on and on.

First song that came to my mind this afternoon was "Like Suicide" off of "Superunknown". :(

But, then I kinda chuckled thinking of "Big Dumb Sex" off of "Louder Than Love". ;)
