I just did my first auto detail for an actual paying client and it went really well. However there was one piece of the 1994 Buick Century I did that was driving me nuts because I couldn't make it look any better, and that was the chrome trim.

Chrome trim is pretty common on lots of the "luxury" cars out there. It's not really metal right? It's more like a thick chrome tape I would think. How do you go about cleaning and maintaining it? Is there a way to "polish" out the defects in it?

What kind of defects? I've never seen swirls or anything on chrome trim before, just pitting and oxidation.

Collinite metal wax works awesome for me. Even though the trim may not be actual metal I have still gotten great results with it. Also it adds protection in one step. It will remove alot of pitting and oxidation.

A lot of the plastic trim has a film on it that is just a thin layer of chrome.

If it is scratches and scuffs you are trying to get out, I have used Meg's ScratchX 1.0 to remove them. So a similar product may prove helpful. (ScratchX 1 is no longer commonly available.)

Water spots and stuff are usually off with a good window cleaner.
