City water is too hard, what are my options?

We built a new house, and it came along with awful water.
Our previous house, I could wash and walk away. Never a single water spot!

I ordered a tds meter to be sure, but my research shows roughly 350-400ppm in our area.

I’m looking into the CR spotless, I have a black truck, and this current scenario just won’t work .

Would I be best off to save the resin with a 2-3 stage system where it is first softened, then run through the resin? Will this save my resin. I’ve read quite a few threads, and I’m sure I’ll bump a few.

Spotless systems you buy will mean you have to maintain them. I've used PureTec for 5 years now and I've recommended them to many others on this forum (who live in the participating areas) and they also went with PureTec and never looked back.

I wash my vehicles on a 100+ sunny Arizona day, without issue. And the water in AZ is probably worse than SD.

I use the Griots Garage portable water deionizer. It has switching valves included, which is nice when you want to regulate your usage to keep from having to refill the media multiple times in a washing season (Indiana). We have ~450ppm TDS here, so you can blast through the media in a month easily if you use it for washing, foaming, and rinsing. I use mine for rinsing only.

I don’t remember what the TDS was at the time. I’m still using the original resin bed. I do, however, have a whole house filter,(no softener). I only use it for the final rinse. At 4 washes or so monthly, it’ll last a good long time.
 
According to the tds meter, 114ppm.
Which is a lot better than I was expecting!

According to on the go website, I should be able to get 1200ish gal out of the OTG2-DDI dual bed system.
