What is the best and safest method to Polish fine hairline scratches due to normal driving and car cover use on rounded fenders? I have customer who has a very high end 1932 kit car roadster, and is asking me to buff out these fine hairline scratches.

Well I am not sure of the best method to use over rounded fenders. I am considering hand polishing first, and, using my detail light to see the result. But if there is still fine hairlines... I would ask your opinion on what machine and compound to use as well.

The paint is a Deep base /clear coat Sapphire blue metallic. It looks black in the garage, but in the sun... its gorgeous. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also had to polish some of the fine scratches from the rounded corners of my car due to a car cover being used. Hand polishing was out of the question so I used a 85RD on a blue pad and just 2 passes had them removed.

Black paint & no swirls or marring left behind.

What color are the fenders? Are the scratches limited to the outer edges?
 
The fenders are also Sapphire Blue,to match the entire street rod. Would a PC machine be acceptable to lightly and quickly mover over the fenders?
 
oops, no, the scratches are everywhere . Thats the reason I'm thinking maybe a quick pass with a PC machine would help...

Yes, a PC would be able to handle the polishing .. no problem.

The PO85RD is a VERY light polish meant for removing the finest of scratches. If that's what you see on the fenders then this polish would do well for you. I'm extremely anal with my car & the finish ........ which is why I prefer this particular polish for the maintenance cleanings.

Thanks Shadetree! I'll order some today. This car is very high end... almost intimidating to work on. The owner loves casual cruises and 2hr blasts down the highway. I feel confident enough now to try the RD85 going forward. I'll report back after using. Thanks again HR20

Here's the finished Product. The car is in the Detroit Autorama this weekend. Looks really nice, like a sapphire ring!! This car took 9 hours to clean, polish,& wax.Used Sovereign Paste on this car.... I love it. Thanks for the tips on the fine scratches.... this thing looks like it was dipped in hot plastic.

Absolutely beautiful finish! I had forgotten how "rich" blue sapphire looks when polished & gleaming.
