Hello all!

Just had a quick question. The front bumper of my car (04 G35 Coupe) has some rock chips and a bit of parking curb rash on the bottom. I was wondering if it was ok for me to clay?

I figure since clay picks up a lot, that may be the last time I can use it. I'm afraid to cause scratches on the paint. TIA for your input!!!

BTW...sorry I couldn't provide pics my camera is busted and I'm trying to get it fixed.

As long as the car is clean, it should be ok. Make sure to check your clay often for large particals, which will destroy your paint. Claying can be very dangerous, even if done correctly. However it is really the only effective way I have seen to remove bonded contaminates. If you find a large partical pick it out with a pair of tweezers. Go over to a wallgreens and pick up a pair, it is better than trying to pick it out with your nails, it also keeps the clay cleaner. The only thing that I think might be a problem is the rock chips and road rash, the clay might collect in the chips in the paint. If this happens it could be hard to remove, you would need to use a cleaner and maybe a toothpick to get it out. Which clay are you using? depending on how hard the clay is it could be easier for it to get in the chips, softer clay will tend to collect in scratches and chips. Any more questions?

Wow! Thanks for the quick reply! The type of clay i'm using Meg's detailing clay bar.

You're right on the money on what i was thinking. I guess since i've already finished the front bumber there's not much I can do now. I'll use a fresh piece for the rest of the car. As of right now I can't think of anything else to ask. I certainly don't know everything yet but i'm sure I'll be posting tomorrow as I'm detailing. Hahah...Thanks again for the reply!

When in doubt, always clay. Megs clay is light and should be fine.

Right, it is also very very firm, so it should reduce the amount of clay getting cought in the chips if any.

after seeing the results of the last survey, I am surprised at just how many people skip this important step.
