I just finished claying my 2008 XLR-V Caddy. I kept getting black pieces on the clay. I'm not sure but I think it is tar because it has a tendency to smear when washed with the friction fluid. If it is tar, should I throw away the new bar and start over. I thought I did a good job of cleaning the car before I clayed it.

Next question. During Mike's detailing class a few Saturadays ago I thought I herd someone say that once the car has been clayed we should wipe it down with mineral spirts. Is this correct?

I would throw the clay away. Yes, a wipe down with mineral spirts after polishing is a good idea or you can use a paint cleaner.

Thank you.. will do. As a general rule would it be safe to say anytme we start to get pieces of tar or other debris we should toss the the clay? It makes sense. Clays a lot cheaper than than a paint job.
