Clay towel at the end of its life?

Why not isolate and double check?

Take half of hood. Use one part of the hood just to dry using the blue towel and the other half, just use the clay mitt but blow dry or use another towel. Then check...

Just a thought...

Tom

I was halfway kidding about the blue towel possibly causing all that damage. But it is possible I didn’t get my paint completely clean while using it just prior to using the clay towel. I think the clay towel is to blame though.

I’m just going to replace both of them and leave these 2 for window duties.

I bought a new claymitt. I plan to take better care of this 1.

How would you do that?

I find it hard to store mine without the "clay side" of mitt from sticking to something.

I have mine out in the open sitting on grit guard.

I’m gonna try to find a tupperware type plastic container that’s the same diameter as the claymitt with enough room to not touch the face of it while it’s stored in there. Drill a couple of holes on top to let it breath.
But transporting it could be tricky unless I guard it the whole time.. I dunno, does that sound like it would work?

I’m going to dry it indoors, no more outdoor drying. I usually slide it on top of a spray bottle and let it drip dry.

That’s the best solution I’ve found so far. I’ve got a to-go container from a restaurant near my house that fits my Griot’s mitt perfectly. I store it face up and there’s enough room you don’t have to worry even if the top gets squished in. I’d imagine you could throw a piece of wax paper or something on top if you were worried about it getting stuck to the lid if it got flipped over in transit.

If you’re interested, PM me your address and I’ll send one your way.

I have not used my clay mitt yet. But when done that I will test something I have read some uses. And that is baking paper and is for to not let it stickning to things. Then store it in a cool space in a tupper ware like eldorado.

Really? Big Thanks! I’d appreciate that.

Eldorado 2k - my clay towel use to dry me nuts with with the clay part sticking to itself. I'm going to buy a clay mitt soon, but I found a process that works for me:
- rinse clay towel after using
- hang by loop to dry
- put a piece of parchment paper on the clay side and roll the towel up, clay side on the inside
- put in container with other clay products.

Not sure if the mitt has a drying loop. If not, sliding over a bottle would work well. Then just quickly take a piece of parchment paper and wrap the mitt and you're done till next time. Parchment paper is cheap so no need to be precise with wrapping it.

I let my towel dry face up on wire shelf. Then loosely roll it up. The rubber doesn't stick to the MF back. For my mitt I slide it over a paper towel roll holder. It is made of thick welded wires with flat base meant to go on your kitchen counter top. Opens up the mitt an allows good ventilation. Got it a Bed, Bath & Beyond store.

This might not work for everyone, but if you always have a bucket of rinseless wash mixed up, keep it in there.

That’s what I do with mine, it stays wet all the time.

The water can get stale if you don’t change it out every week or to or if you don’t use distilled water.
