On hand now I just have CG' "light" blue claybar. So far I'm batting a thousand, never had to throw one away do to dropping.

Now the Audi feels rough & excite about my next detail.

I saw CG has some clayish mat that attaches to a DA with 6" back plate. Are these worth the steep price. Is a 6" plate actually 5 1/2"????

Any claying suggestions or should, I just stick with folding & kneading, old school?

I personally would get a cobra mitt or another mitt instead of the DA pad. No real reason other than I love the mitts! After ur done washing and rinseing dip ur mitt right in the wash bucket and start over. Easy and fast

The da pad is great and a time saver.The pad may leave a little marring thus extra work.I would stick to the clay so you can here or see any thing abnormal in the process such as a dirt nib in the clay and scratching.If you use the da and the car isn't surgic clean ,with the machine on you won't here any thing abrading the paint.There are many variables when it comes to the da pad,and yes worth every penny.
 
I love prep towels over clay, forget all that kneading. My hands can not handle that anymore. prep towels or mitts save ton of time.
 
Prep towels and mitts are good,but on a different note particles can get trapped and cause scratching especially working on the bottom of your car and picking up a small speck of dirt and taking it for a ride all over your car.with clay you have somewhat control of that happening.

So when they talk 6" it's actually a 5.5" Plate? Just curious.

Is there any diff with the lubes, I remember using Meg. QD for lube, then, CG's luber.

This is really one of the coolest parts of detailing, you can really feel the drag, then slick like ice, & that dirty clay knead knead. Are the traditional clay's all the same with a different company brand.

Prep towels? MFG

Any Fav MITS

I probably would screw up (murph here) the DA claying

I have always stuck with clay but then again I do not do this as a job. It's just for me, my girls SUV, and one of my friends. I have always worried about marring with the rubber pads. Plus like you, I like the feeling you get with the clay.
 
If you are using a Meguiar's Quick Detail Spray for claying, make sure it is the red bottle and not the newer black bottles.

Mike Stoops says the newer quick Detailers are too slick and don't allow the clay to work properly


Additionally, these RTU products are way too expensive to use as clay lube. I like Meg's D114 and Ultima Waterless Wash. Both work great diluted 1oz to a gallon of distiller water.
 
I have two or three "red" Meg QD's, I should use them!
