the problem is keeping it lubricated...you will be fighting the sun as it drys out the clay lube...why not find some shade or wait til the sun drops low enough so you have some light but your not in direct sun....Any harm although i never did before to clay in the sun???
situation i have is my only alternative

if you have drying lube while your dragging the clay over the finish, you will marr the finish....
or how about a total overcast day?? any of these conditons would be more prefered over a sunny dayIf you can do it early morning or later in the afternoon, at least the paint wont be so hot.

You could try using an umbrella to shade the car from the sun. A bit awkward, and you'll want to cover the frame ends with electrical tape or something just in case you let it touch the car, to avoid scratching it, but if the sun is REALLY bad, that's what I would try, if you can't find other shade. The darker the umbrella, the more light it blocks. You could try some other kind of shade, that if it touches the paint, has a soft covering. But like you said, much better to do early morning.
