as many of you know, that pesky rubber stripping around the exterior of the doors is new and black when you drive a new car off the lot, but fades in a few weeks and really detracts from the look of a ride.

i realize it's a small detail, but what's the best product for keeping these exterior door moldings protected and looking sharp?

i've been using optimum tire shine. i apply it with foam filled cotton applicators, since i find they are good for that type of duty (wheels, engines, well, trim) i let it sit a minute, buff if slightly, then when i apply opti-seal as my LSP, it goes over the treated spots and seems to really maintain its health.

interestingly, and maybe it's because of what mazda uses, but more likely because i got to it quickly, but i checked the build date on my new mazda and after i decided the paint had more than enough time to cure, when i did my first detail on it earlier in the year i applied the opti-seal to these areas w/o having to use the OTS and it's been looking sexy ever since. granted, i probably update the sealant application more often then most people.

If it's already faded. You could re-dye it with leatherique, then 303 it to keep it that way.
