Clear bra removal, tips?

this is what I am working with, helping out a friend. Using 3m adhesive remover, gives me about 10 seconds before it evaporates, but it is to thick. So I am spraying it using my nail in a glove and a towel to rub the adhesive so it is thin enough to reapply then scrub off with another towel. Seems like a brute way of going about this, but dont see another way. I am not causing to much harm to the paint in my technique but it is taking forever.

I used goo gone, a head gun and steam. None of which is working well.

Any suggestions?

 
Biggest pain in the butt ever. Especially if it's cracking into pieces. Try steam, clay lube and add a plastic razor blade to your mix. Take your time and go slow. Eventually it all comes off. Man I hate those things with a passion.
 
Ive never used a plastic razor before. Anything I should worry about?
 
Pita ,I declined a 400 bra removal job 2 years ago on a bmw the gentlemen took pics and sent them to me ,u have to know when to walk away trust me it hurt but it wasn't worth the headache.

No just go slow and glide it gently. Perfectly safe on paint hence the plastic part. Buy a ton of them as they quickly lose their sharpness. If you use clay lube it will allow the razor to glide easier. It will be a bit of a mess but no big deal. Steam will also loosen things up.

Heard that, Im helping a friend of a friend at his shop. Hard to walk away. Moving forward idk about this, isnt worth the price. This is the 3rd ive removed and the first one was the only one that went smooth.

Looking on youtube for videos, going to try the plastic razor. Saw a video someone used gasoline. Seemed to work well, but I dont know enough about what could go wrong. Just doesnt sound safe.
 
The key I found is to use the heat gun BEFORE you start to peel the clear bra. Heat up a section then peel, repeat.

Isopropyl alcohol works well for many type of glue residues and is a bit slower to evaporate. I use 91%, then a quick polish, and wax it up

2nd on the plastic razors

Heat gun helps, usually on thicker glues like double sided sticky tapes from emblems
 
Best way I have found is to soak the surface with a tar and wax remover along with a few rags and lay the soaked rags on top of the glue for a few minuets. I would also second the plastic razor blades and scrape/push all the glue toward the bottom of the hood. After awhile you should have a very thin layer left that you can elbow grease off with a rag. Be sure to have a lot of rags handy as the glue rolls around and can end up back on you panel after you have wiped it off. Should only take you around an hour (depending on how cheap the bra was), just have patience. Then you will have to buff and polish...
 
I wonder how lacquer thinner would work? Do you have an inconspicuous area to test? That would be a last resort. Just be careful and get it on and off the paint quick. Dont just rub and rub or you are asking for trouble.
And if that doesnt work, get out the sand blaster!
 
yes if left with glue lacquer thinner will work 100 percent,The down side is ruining towels.
 
actually if left with glue that's the easy part.
 
I just removed film from a 10 year old Porsche for the first time.

Pick at the film until you can grab it with your fingers. Instead of "pulling back" like you would with masking tape, "pull forward". Basically what you're wanting to do is stretch the film like you're trying to re-apply it to a bigger area. Make sense?

When you do this, it will start pulling off the paint and take the adhesive with it. I used Stoner Tarminator to remove the little bit of adhesive that still remained. Wiped it on and then used my finger nail to gently scrape it off.

Brake Kleen , best thing ive ever used to remove adhesive with no ill effects on paint.Soak a rag then hold it over the glue to let it pentrate then wipe the softened glue right off.
 
The clear bra is off, only the adhesive remains. maybe I mislabeled the title
 
Lacquer thinner,stay away from brake Kleen although it make work you don't want to breathe that in.
