what is a good reader to use to see how much clear coat is left? and how do you determine how much room you have to play with?

I think a lot of people use the Highline II reader, and you take a measurement on the door frame and the surface, then use that is you amount of clear to work with.

For a straight up paint thickness from what I understand you want to be very cautious if you see < 100 microns

i dont understand the concept still :/ i know it tells you how much paint you have but how do you figure how much clear you have

Clear coat is paint, only without the pigment. For me a thickness gauge is only needed for wet sanding, which I don't do.

The issue I have with cheaper PTG's are they don't work on fiberglass, carbon fiber, etc. The issue I have with PTG's that can work on those sub-surfaces, they are very expensive.
