Hi everyone I have been lurking here for a few weeks and I just purchased the udm pro kit and cant wait to get it. This company is great to work with and Meghan is awsome. I have a question I own a 1990 BMW 325 IC and I have heard that from 1990 on there is a clear coat on all cars but how would I know for sure. I have polished it with no paint on my mf's is this an indicator. I would like to find this out before any boo boos. Also can I use the udm on plastic bumpers or will this hurt them. Thank you guys all your knowledge is great. Doug

No matter whether it's clear coated or single stage, the polishing procedure should be the same. So no worries about doing something wrong. You'll know for sure by looking at your polish pad after doing a pass. If the pad begins turning the color of your paint it's a single stage finish. Otherwise it's clear coated.

You should be fine using the UDM on painted plastic bumpers. I've used PC and rotary on them with no troubles.

the udm is fairly safe...you should be fine polishing with it even on the plastic parts....if no piant is coming up on your mf applicators you should be good as far as there being a CC

Thank you very much also when you are using the udm and you have to get close to something that is taped off do you just go up to it or do you go close and then when you are taking the wax off get it into the nooks and crannies. I was wondering if anyone does the edges of each section by hand then use the orbital then remove it all would this make sense. Thanx again

So I should never use it for paint correction just fine polish.
thank u

with a random orbital i only tape off plastic trim and seals...edges are for the most part very safe when using a random orbital polisher.......just pass across them as you normally would any other part of the paint....and you can use it for any level of paint correction as long as you have the patience for it...when you run out is when you will switch over to the rotary

I only tape when using the rotary. I've never done any damage with the PC.

You can use the UDM for every stage of polishing. But I have read that some aggressive compounds may not break down properly due to the lack of heat generated by a random orbital

Should I hit the taped off trim a little or get close and cover the extra when removing the wax.

There are a lot of areas that I will polish by hand; under door handles, close to emblems. rocker panels, etc. Just grab a different type of polish. My new favorite is PB Professional Polish. It's more of a chemical polish with no abrasives but will take out marks. There are many others.
