Anyone else have an issue with clearcoat peeling off their rims? I have a 4 month old Mazda 6 Grand Touring and the rims look like a sunburn.

I noticed this the day after I used Meguires HotShine tire shine. Not 100% sure what the cause was but as you could imagine Meguires says it is not due to their product.

Didn't you post this already? Take it back to the dealer for warranty. Don't tell them you sprayed anything on there. And no, the tire shine didn't do it.

I've had the same thing to my wife's Toyota. Unfortunately, it was right after the warranty expired.

Are the wheels completely painted or a combination of painted and brushed metal surface? I've had two Toyota's now and on both of the them the clear coat over the brushed metal surface has failed, while the painted area remained in tact.

I think a tiny piece of debris hits the wheel causing a pit or crack. For what ever reason, the clear does not bond to the brushed metal as well as the painted areas and this allows moisture to get under the clear in those areas and the clear starts to fail/peel away. This is simply a theory based on observation. I can't see how any wheel cleaner would cause the bubbling/peeling. Hazing/fogging, yes; peeling, no.

I have new Sonax FE now I'm afraid to use on my new Mz3 :(. This is my first Mazda and despite I love many things about car cosmetically it has a lot of issues, literally a lot!

Always said Mazda has no identity.Besides the look of certain models what makes a consumer purchase a Mazda between a Toyota or Honda or even the new Hyundai.mazda had some nice cars back years ago, like the millennia the 929 or the infamous rx.

Look on the web and see if there is any open campaign on this promblem, the longer you wait your claim will be deemed as wear and tear .

take back to dealer show them the issue. keeep the geek nation updated with your issue thanks you

Could you elaborate on what you mean by "identity"?

Mazda has NO identity crisis, ZOOM ZOOM has been going on now for over a decade. There ID is simple, tires of driving missionary position type family cars, but a 3 or 6!

I like Mazda 3 HB 2014-15 but there is something missing to love it fully. It is so much tender car definitely was not build to last.

I have 2 buddy's, one whom is on this forum, who've owned MS3's and NO issues with them, well one had a slave cylinder go bad @90k, so not sure about the built to last stuff. The guy on here had 105k on his and he traded it in on a brand new Mazda 6 last year and that car is top notch and gets over 40 mpg on the freeway and has a spirit and soul, unlike a Camry or Accord. I mean they get the job done but so does missionary position.

Take the car to your dealer, for some reason the darker GT wheels are having issues. I had the same rims but silver and no issues. Something is happening due to the color change. I had a 2010 Speed3, 105,000 miles with only minor suspension issues. I also live in Michigan with really crappy roads. Traded it in back in August, got $10 grand as a trade in. Bought a 2016 Mazda 6, needed the room with my kids getting older. 17,000 later and no issues.

I posted the 2nd link in his previous thread about the same thing. The OP needs to go see what the dealership will do. More threads won't fix them.

That's interesting. I have the same exact 2016 Mazda 6 GT in deep crystal blue. I didn't think you could get the that model with the lighter silver wheels. Are those the 19" wheels? I really like the darker ones, but I am nervous about the reports of the finish peeling. So for I haven't had a problem.

They are lucky. Loved my MS3 and had over 33k miles of SCCA Courses on it. However the Stock turbo seals are notorious for failing. Most will puff smoke by 60k miles. Oil blow-by on their Direct Injection is a problem too. I modified mine with an upgraded turbo and more including an oil catch can pretty much right away so I never had any issues. Fun cars for their day though. I agree that overall, there's no identity issue with Mazda. It's just too bad they no longer really have any Zoom in their lineup. IMO the 6 died when it lost their V6 or even turbo motor as an option.

This was mine: I ran two different tunes. One at 310fwhp/330lbs for track days and 270fwhp/290lbs as a daily driver.
