Clearcoat peeling off rims like a sunburn on 2016 Mazda

My wife has a 2007 Mazda 6 with the standard 2.3L and has put 112k on it since Feb of 2011 and we've had to replace the thermostat and housing, that's it (along with brakes and tires, oil changes and trans fluid services, plugs every 50k along with coolant flushes every 50k) This car drives great, love driving it actually, it just feels "right"!

Sorry about that, I tried to delete the post after I realized I already posted it here but the system would not let me delete my own post even though there were no comments.
If any mods see this please delete this thread

Mazda has NO identity crisis, ZOOM ZOOM has been going on now for over a decade. There ID is simple, tires of driving missionary position type family cars, but a 3 or 6!

I'd rock the new 6 sedan, pretty neat looking and got awesome reviews.

We bought the CX9 after being hesitant about purchasing another boring SUV.. It's been awesome, it's a blast to drive, it's friggin fast and looks awesome. The only issue we've had in 48k miles is a door latch mechanism that froze after a winter car wash. Apparently sub zero temps aren't the best time to spray all the salt and sand off your car, lol! I can't wait for the new one to come out!

That's interesting. I have the same exact 2016 Mazda 6 GT in deep crystal blue. I didn't think you could get the that model with the lighter silver wheels. Are those the 19" wheels? I really like the darker ones, but I am nervous about the reports of the finish peeling. So for I haven't had a problem.
Since Derek didn't chime in I will, his car is the Touring model and comes with the silver wheels and few less options than the GT model does.

Have the same problem with my 2005 Silverado rims. The original rims began corodding so I brought the truck back under warrantee and they replaced them with rims that were clear coated. They Looked terrible. They looked like the clear coat was brushed on. So last year they began peeling. I welcomed.this. now that the clear coat is coming off, I am wet sanding the aluminum rims and polishing them. Good luck with your situation.

^ just another con of living in a snow state. I have some clearcoat peel on my center caps

I was so happy at first when I got a car, then discovered that to mountain the car to look good cosmetically is impossible because of weak glass and thin paint. Now, there is hassling noise at 40mph above speed no one can figure where it is coming from started at 4k. Then, for a while I had sudden acceleration problem, jeez, good thing nothing bad happened. The car might serve long but will look like "not pretty" is for sure, it is already started.

Anyone else have an issue with clearcoat peeling off their rims? I have a 4 month old Mazda 6 Grand Touring and the rims look like a sunburn.

I noticed this the day after I used Meguires HotShine tire shine. Not 100% sure what the cause was but as you could imagine Meguires says it is not due to their product.

I just had my 2016 Mazda 6 Grand touring in the shop for damage (rear ended).. when I went to pick it up on just this past Friday, I noticed one of the wheels is peeling!!! Nothing was even sprayed on it, as the Mazda collision shop had it in their possession. They are "looking" into it now.. said it might have to be warranty out.... Problem I am afraid is that I had a chip in the rim from the accident and they couldn't get a "replacement wheel".. didn't exist.. (even though there were brand new 6's on the lot with the same rim) so they had to "recondition" the time.. which is fine.. it looks okay.

Did you get any resolution from yours? Do you have the gunmetal gray rims?
