Coated my tires today and WOW,

SameGuy, I have an unrelated but kinda related question. Is it law in Canada that you must have actual snow tires during the winter?

Only in Quebec. In fact, it's the only jurisdiction in the Americas with such a law. From December 15 to March 15 every winter, any car that regularly drives on Quebec roads must be equipped with real snow/winter tires bearing the "mountain-snowflake" symbol. Before the law came into effect in 2009 it was estimated that around 90% of Quebeckers used snow tires in winter, but in urban centers the percentage was closer to 50. In the first five years with the law, estimates put winter tire use close to 98% (there are exemptions, including one for snowbirds driving to or from Quebec between the dates). And in that time the number of serious accidents (fatal or serious injury) has dropped by 37%, with an even bigger drop in urban centers.

Now back to TW Endurance Tire Coating talk!

Sorry to continue the off topic, where I live in bc it's law October 1st to April 1st must have snowflake tires, they just eased up on the law and now accept M&S tires.

I'm gonna have to try this tire coating, I've been using opti bond too long haha

Is that BC-wide, or only in certain mountainous districts (Coastals or Rockies)? Like the chains laws in the Sierras in the US?

No problem going off topic, I grew up in Detroit and thought I heard that's the law up there, guess its only in Quebec.

I'm pretty sure the TW tire coating has to be applied in warmer weather, so you guys up in Canada will be good people to ask when applying it now. I have an underground parking spot so it stays warm enough now and should be warm enough when I get my tires, just trying to figure out between the new Michelin AS3's or get the new Blizzak WS80 on my stock wheels and then go a little "cheap" and get these General S-03's I've been reading about, thus having 2 tires. I thought about seperate wheels but that would mean needing new TPMS and special lugs, thus meaning less mod money in the spring, we'll see!

The WS80s are supposed to continue to offer Blizzak's incredible ice gripping abilities, while improving wear characteristics. My first set of Blizzaks about 15 years ago didn't even last one winter, but saved my life.

I have the X-Ice 2 Michelin on both our cars during winter. Pretty good tires probably last year for one of the sets they have been in service for like 4 winters maybe.

I have had a few others over the years some cars just are plain better in the snow slush and ice than others. That's what nice about tire racks test is they are on the same car

I would consider blizzak or x-ice when replacement arrive but the continental also test well

Maybe we should start a winter tire thread in the auto-talk forum?

I'm going into my fourth winter on Nokian Hakaapelliitaa 5 studdables (no studs, though) with maybe 50% tread left. I do about 5-6000 miles a winter on mostly cleared roads, so the wear is about as good as I've ever experienced for a snow tire. These tires are exceptional in all true winter conditions, but also surprisingly good on cleared (wet or dry) winter pavement.

I want Nokians but they're not offered in my size so I'll be getting the Blizzaks;)

Co-worker put studded Hakaa 7s on his Forte Coupe and that thing is a winter beast! But he lives outside of town where the roads become icy compacted snow early, and stay that way until March. I just don't understand studs in the city or suburbs; most roads are clear though 95% of winter.

Clear roads, what's that? Cities here ran out of salt last year, only laying down salt if absolutely needed, God bless Murica:rolleyes:

Did a first coat of Endurance Trim on some severely faded mud flaps tonight. It is like ink, a very thin liquid that just soaks the sponge applicator. The good news about its thinness is that if you inadvertently get some on your just-EXOd fenders (%#€¥$&!!!) it wipes right off. Will hit with a couple more coats in the morning when I get to the tires. Looks nice, though.

LOL yeah, Klasse. We get a ton of snow but we have the largest snow-clearing budget of any major city in the world -- last year it was $179 million. All highways and most main roads are bare all winter long. Residential side streets can get a thick buildup of hard-pack, but even that doesn't normally stick around long. That's why I won't get Blizzaks again. Great tires on ice and hard-pack, but I wore out a set in less than one season because I was on pavement almost the entire winter.

We didn't run out of salt around here, but in some intersections the salt accumulation by February was so deep it made things slippery in the dry!

Yeah, salt dust can be slippery for sure:eek:

Well it was bound to happen and it looks like TW has some more competition, DP now has released their tire coating. I've been a fan of DP products since joining AG and always have something of theirs in my collection, this new tire coating will be purchased over the winter, Christmas time actually to take advantage of the sales:thumbup:

Drove the Corolla onto the deck boards and did two coats of TW. The tires don't look new, they are blacker than new! I'll stop at two coats, it's just enough sheen to look good without standing out, and the coverage is very even. Me likey. :dblthumb2:

Yeah, 2 coats seems to be enough for most of us, although the 1st time I used it I did 3 coats. After the initial application, when I felt I needed to re-apply, I would apply 1 coat and I was good to go. The longest I've gone is 6 weeks and they never ever turned brown, just "regular" black after 6 weeks.

I know some find the provided tire cleaner less than but just use it up or maybe mix it with another tire cleaner or APC, can't hurt;)

Yeah I like the mothers back to black restoring tire cleaner more than the TW that came with it.

I checked the tread on my two sets of winter tires and both are much better than I thought so another season on the michelin x ice 2. I was going to buy some ws80 blizzak from Costco but I guess I can wait another season or two.

Day 45 or very close to that. I'm too lazy to go back and count. No maintenance other than water from a pressure washer.
