Coating and Clear Bra, PPF

Was that film coated with opticoat, CQ, etc? Wow that's a lot of YUCK on that front end! A little amazed it came off so well!
 
IMO, depends on your installer who has to warranty the film and you're willingness to install before/after PPF.

I say Coat after the PPF, easy and done. Never have compatibility issues. If UV damage is such an issue beneath the film you have bigger maintenance issues.

There was no coating applied in the pics, but after being detailed OCP was applied. ;)
 
I put 3 layers of nano coating (CQ) on my car but i'd like to get better protection on it and therefore bought PPF and i plan to do it myself (just need to find some time). Problem is that these films
have some adhesives on one side which pretty much adds granularity to how it looks like at the end, pretty much orange peel like. This actually creates a diffusing effect and that is why you do not see the swirls marking so much but it is on expense of having more visible orange peel. i am going to test how much orange peel this is going to add to my car and if it is too much then i'm just going to do the bumpers and add 1-2 coats of CQ. i spent many hours with DA and denim pads to remove the original orange peel from the paint before applying the C quartz and then applied reload. With regards to looks, result is amazing. Regarding protection, the film would by far produce better protection. When you applied it on your car did you look at the orange peel on the part on which the film was placed vs. a part without a film??, how noticeable was it ?

The severity of texture/orange peel in film varies from manufacture to manufacture. In the image I posted the film edge is just below the beam/spot from the flashlight. The swirls to the left and right of the beam are in the paint and there are zero visible swirls in the area below where the film was applied. If you follow the reflection of the florescent bulbs from the top of the image on down you will see the texture/orange peel only changes slightly when you get to the film edge. Yes, there is a blemish in the film on the lower left which could have been from the installation or just a manufacture defect, I didn't do the install.

FYI, if you've never installed film before I think you're underestimating the difficulty to install film. ;)
