Recently i was in the in-laws garage and walked past their 2020 jeep cherokee that i coated 13 months ago.

The coating i used was from the same local company that i have used exclusively thus far. At the time when i received the coating in the mail, i didnt know until then that they had a new coating out(3-5 year). Which is what they sent me. All they had previously was a 2-3 year, which was easy to apply and was super slick.

So applied the new coating to the jeep and it was an absolute b*tch to wipe off, no matter how much i tried...still a pain. Called the company, they told me it was more difficult to apply but it offered a much longer durability. I told them to never send me that again.

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when i was walking past the jeep, i noticed high spots all over the rear bumper and hatch. Looked like dog crap.

Never noticed it b4 as theres so much metallic in this color that in any type of sun light it hid the high spots. But this time the low light area hit just right.

Buffed the area and recoated it today. I tried lc hybrid force white pad and menz 3500....didnt make a dent. Ended up having to use lc hybrid force orange pad and menz 400.

I never thought it would be that hard to remove high spots lol

I didn't use that long lasting of a coating on my old Abarth but a high spot appeared on a cool, July morning (about 2 monthes after initial applocation) and what I did was use Alien Kleen to knock it down and then recoated the area, no problem, so maybe someone can try this if they run into the same problem down the road

I never understood how cool temps 2 monthes later could "bring a high spot to the surface" like that, any thoughts

In closing I'm glad you knocked it out and fixed it, I'm sure they were appreciative and speaks to your character

Earlier this year when I coated my brother’s Taycan using Carpro UK and SiC I left SiC on a little too long on the rear deck lid and bumper. It was difficult to wipe off so I knew it sat too long. I immediately applied more and wiped off, couldn’t see any high spots with my Scangrip light or when we took it out and it was sunny but sure enough once it went out on a cloudy day it was obviously still there. Had to polish and coat again. Rupes yellow foam and Essence did not remove it, I had to use microfiber pad with Jescar compound, then it came off no problem. Followed up with Rupes yellow and Essence again and coated a few hours later. Cloudy days make it way easier to see high spots because it’s not so bright and very diffused. Sunny days or a bright light completely hide it on a metallic paint like that.

Thanks klasse, they never even noticed, and once i did it stuck out to me like a sore thumb. They told me not to worry about it but i couldn't leave it alone. Its my name behind the work, and im not a smuck lol.

Ive never heard of that alien stuff. Thanks for the reference, hope i never have it happen again though lol

Alien Kleen was a nickname a guy here used to call Optimum Power Clean because he said it cleaned things "out of this world". Ever since then I've adapted it to my verbiage. I can't remember his screen name but he lived overseas

In the 50/50 shot that before/after line is quite obvious. I didn’t realize a coating would darken a car that much. My plan for this spring is to begin a carnauba-only regimen, but seeing that darkening effect is making me think twice about maybe using a coating instead… hmmm

Nice recovery. Yes, bright lights hide the high spots. For my next job I am actually going to use my big softboxes that illuminate a diffuse light. I used these during my wedding photography days ( did 20 to 30 a year part time)

Lol to my knowledge and experience coatings aren't supposed to darken like that. This is the only time I've had/noticed this happen in my minimal experience in coatings(only have done 6 vehicles).

That darkened side is just the look that the high spots are giving off.

Im sure someone with more coating knowledge than me could clarify this

And that is how my Ceramic Pro 9H / Xpel Fusion coatings look.

Terrible!

This is who I use Gloss Coat or CarPro CQUK 3.0/Gliss. And I may just use Gloss Coat once the CarPro is gone.

Great save! Great introspection into the process.

You may want to try out the new Gyeon Evo formulations. They are one layer coatings now other than Syncro.
