Coating single stage paint - should you?

So based on the comments so far, a 90's SS car should be fine to coat if the wipe from a product like Eraser doesn't dull the paint? I'm assuming this would be the case even if a bit older as well.

I'll try a small spot with Eraser and see if it dulls the paint or not to determine if it's coatable or not.

Yes.

Just to add....


For those of you that have in the past or may in the future, rub an OLD single stage paint down with any oily product, like the Meguair's #7 Show Car Glaze.

It wouldn't make sense to also think you would then coat this car.

Why?

Because there would be no point in applying the #7 if the next step would be to chemically strip it.


Make sense?


This would be called working backwards.


But for any MODERN - or recently painted car with new single stage paint - shouldn't be an issue. Do normal steps and coat.


It's just the vintage stuff you "save" that begins to become confusing.

I have a question. Would a 1995 Porsche Factory Paint on a 911 (993 Guards Red Colour), qualify as a MODERN paint ?

Doing a correction on this car and would like to know if based on the info on this post, a ceramic coating would be ok to install.
