Coatings Pros and Cons

I will add i was turned off by the coating wave. Until i gave in and tried the DP PAINT COAT a few months back. Did it for my winter prep. First was the DP PAINT PREP POLISH, then the paint coat. So far no wax or sealant i have used offers this kind of protection. Just washing the vehicle off i can tell. And yes it stays cleaner between washes. The true test will be come spring. After a brutal winter. To see what the vehicle looks like. If i can hit with pinnacle black label coating booster in the spring, and it still looks good, then it was worth the hype. I will add, the DP COAT was so user friendly, it was goof proof! Think of using a spray sealant (BF CS) for example. FRANKPROZZLY, if your looking into one that is easy and not sure of a coating, give the DP a look. :props:

How much would you spray on how big of an area? I do like the spray bottle going directly on the paint

I know this is several years old but have some questions. Thinking about getting my truck coated. 2016 Ford Super Duty crew cab.(white) My job takes me on power plants, steel mills etc. Have already notice the brown dots. Rust in the paint. Will a coating stop that? He wants to use IGL Quartz. Good or Bad? I wash it every week if it is above freezing. If I have flyash on it I spray it off at the first place I can find. In my sales job I have to turn my truck in every 4 years and looking to get the resale value out of it.....unless my better half wants to keep it.

This is a great thread!

I'll be using Wolfgang Uber paint coating on my car in the near future and I'm not sure if I can clay it afterwards or not. I like using a fine grade clay towel about every 4-6 weeks to keep the paint smooth and clean but after the coating is applied/cured I don't wanna harm it, does anyone know if this is the case with WGUPC? Is it safer to just use an iron remover every 2 months, lightly?

Thanks guys?

The short answer is "yes" a coating will help. It won't necessarily prevent ALL imbedded iron deposits from occurring, but it will definitely make a difference in protecting your paint from all of the environmental elements that constantly attack our daily drivers.

I can't comment on the IGL Quartz, as I'm not familiar with this product. Sounds like you are considering having your truck coated by a pro. Nothing wrong with that, but there are also a number of pro-sumer coatings available that are pretty easy to apply. The key is prepping the paint properly for the coating. If you don't have a dual-action polisher and the necessary pads to do the job (not to mention the time), having it professionally coated is a good way to go.

A coating and regular washes using good technique will keep your new truck in tip top shape...

Coating are good for the thin clear coats factories are spraying these days.
Carefully washed they can have any minor swirling repaired with Car Pro Essence+.
Areas that need more extensive repairs can be touched up with Car Pro Essence and recoated without re-doing the complete panel.

If you just have to put something on them to top, you can use Car Pro ech2o mixed with reload, reload mixed at 50/50 distilled, Gyeon Cure, or any other coating specific toppers.

Coatings won't stop this but will help. It's not a big deal really. CarPro Iron-X or other products like that will remove/disolve those embedded spots. Once you do that you can wipe any remaining off with a good detail spray.

I like OTC user-installer based coatings that you could do at home. Especially on Daily Drivers where you might want or need to reapply them. I can't comment on IGL as I'm not familiar with it.

Once coated you can as already noted, use CarPro ECH20 and reload combined. I use it all the time and LOVE it. Works amazingly well at keeping the hydrophobic and protective properties of the coating going.
