Hey guyz, I've been gone from the forum for a while trying to finish up college and find a real job. Well I finally graduated college, six years of going to class, studying, and test, man am I glad, never have to do it again. And the best part is i found a great job, and the pay is pretty good for just getting out of college, new truck here I come, actaully I should probably get a house first, anyway this is were I will be working.

Yep, I'm going to work offshore with Cheveron off the coast of Louisiana on their production platforms as an Operations Specialist. Something kinda new for me, but the pay and the benefits are so worth it. I'll be doing 7 on 7 off so on my week off I'm gonna be able to fully carry out my car detailing business. I can't wait.

Can't wait to get out there, I start training in August, and will offshore for the first time in September. I hope I can handle it.

Heheh, wish you luck, you have a hell of a brutal job ahead of you....we have some friends in oil and I know how tough it is on those rigs, can easily make over 6 figures but you'll never work harder for 6 figures lol.

I think they just had a tv show awhile ago showing the trainings done on rigs and what newbies have to get used to :D ....but when you get that pay check you'll be Im the MAN
 
That's quite the place you'll be working, one of my neighbors works on the rigs and like Surfer said you'll make some good coin but you'll work hard for it. Nothing wrong with earning good coin and working hard for it, it's not as bad it sounds I'm sure you know what I mean. My neighbor tells me it's a fun place to work at too, you get to do and see very interesting things.

Here is a word or two of motherly advice:
-never say never, I went back and got my master's just a few years ago!!!
-you heard the expression don't put the cart before the horse? well, here we know don't put the car before the house.

 A house is not going to depreciate; in one year your truck's value won't put a smile on your face.


(And down the road there is the good old equity loan....got us new floors, a lovely pool with a waterfall designed just for us....you get the pic.) Hopefully you don't need to, but...

I just hope my engineering [computer hardware] studies pay off. Ive wanted to do it my whole life, so hopefully I will get a reward for all my work.

Wow, congratulations! It wouldn't happen to be Chevron Jack or Tahiti that you are working on is it? You will love the H.U.E.T. training. Basic preparation in case the helicopter crash lands into the ocean, it was fun. Personal basket's are supposedly more fun ;)

I'm a design engineer at Halliburton, and got to do some field training in Houma and New Iberia, LA. It's tough work, but the best advice I can offer is just to save all your money the first couple of years. I know people that transferred out of operations after saving several $100,000's and they are living like kings and working on land. Wish I could go back and do it right...

Congrats, that looks more like an adventure than a job. Enjoy it while you can, it is an experience of a lifetime for you that works out to also pay you!
