I used Coll. 845 and I wasn`t quite happy with the level of gloss so I removed it from the front end, clayed it and used Megs 205 with a finishing pad, I used this pad because I wanted the least aggressiveness and re-applied Coll 845. The Megs 205 up the gloss slightly so no I know this is a pretty good combo and will work for the whole car.

Question: Is Collinite 845 very good at protecting my paint or do I need to undercoat it with a good sealer. If the sealer under 845 is better for protection then what is the best, to use, Collinite is a synthetic so what would work best

Collonite 845 is awesome. I use it all the time on my boat that sits in the water all summer. For an LSP exposed to a marine environment it beads like no other.

I wouldn't worry about a sealant underneath.

Thanks for the reply, I`ve read many good reports about coll. 845 but I don`t remember if they said it was good for acid rain, pollutants etc. etc.

It`s good to hear it`s so good around a marine environment, that`s tough on everything.

I put a coat of 845 over Wet diamond. Gotta say, the stuff is a dust magnet. My car is always coated now. Hopefully will calm down as the season progresses.

I purchased Collinite 845 based on the reviews stating that it can be used as a LSP and has great durability. I have yet to apply it yet though.

Not to sure about this 845 thing. I picked some up and decided to try it on the Daughters car which had about two month old DG 601/105 on it. Applied the 845 to the fender as a test and let it haze. Wiped it off with a MF and noticed a few water spots on the fender. My first reaction was "great I just sealed some water spots under the 845". I reached for the QD and sprayed where the spots were and wiped with a MF and the spots removed instantly. My assumption is the 845 did not stick to the 601/105.

I would have stripped the old sealant first.

Think I will stick with the 601/105 as it is probably better for the Phoenix environment at 110 plus. I just wanted to try the 845 as I have read the posts of people topping a sealant with 845 to get thru the winter and how great it was. I just Opti-Sealed her car over the 601/105, now that stuck and definately amped up the dark color.

845 is a good stand alone product. If you have a lot of protection on already then youre not getting anything more but wasting product if you top it with 845. I top my bfwd with 845 which I probably don't even need to but I just wanted to test it since I already bought it. Now I'm going to use 845 on other cars and use my carnauba blackfire midnight sun on top of the bfwd.

845 needs some time to cure....

Dave, the only reason I suggested that was since the sealant had been on for 2 months already. 845 has been quoted as having 4-6 months durability, so if the product used underneath has more durability, then you're probably good to go.

8 mos durability here with 845. BFWD, which is pretty slicker, gets me 4 mos.

I've used Collinite #845 this spring when the weather has been cooler and on my car, the depth was insane, very noticeable right away! I did a full DG early spring detail, then 2x's #845, a coat of AW and then another 2x's #845 and I couldn't be happier with the results. Now I admit I'm a "product waster" but I know this, down the road when the weather starts to change again and we're heading into winter, my car will have #845 applied to it "several" times before the white stuff flies, everyone reports great durability with #845 so I will have it on my car for the 2013-14 winter driving season. I also don't understand why more people don't use Collinite year round either, makes no sense as this is one great product!

Not a problem. I picked up the 845 as a curiosity thing as most people say they use it for winter protection. Not much of that around Phoenix. I have used Zaino exclusively for at least 10 years and recently (the last year) started using DG products with great durability. I think the DG works as well as Zaino although the Z2 Pro has kept my truck looking better than new for a long time. I do have to admit that 845 is one of the best spreading waxes I have ever used.

Taking my winter tires and.rims off finally and going to coat the summer rims with 845. I have coated some wheels with Hydro2 and not too impressed with it so far. Going to do a side by side of the two since they both are advertised to last about 3 months.

I get 5-6 months easy out of 845. Lasted October to april this year. I use on wheels lights and windshield. The stuff is awesome! Can be topped or you can use as topper.

davidc, I haven't used 601/105 but I wouldn't worry about 845 not coping with the heat.
It was actually originally designed for high heat industrial applications

Applied 845 to wheels today. Had them off the car, cleaned the silicone off the rubber for Perl application and cleaned the barrels and faces with TRIX. Did two coats of 845, this stuff if great! Easy to remove after it has hazed, looking forward to the test period. Hope to get 5-6 months of protection like you do jjj. :)

I don't think you will be disappointed Kevin. Brake dust is easier to get off too ; )
