Collinite #845: The Definitive How-To Guide For This Legendary Wax

Ok, since being on this forum I have learned quite a bit. I finally bit the bullet a little while back and got me some of this Collinite 845. I have also been following this thread for awhile and reading tips and feedback on it. This last weekend, I started my winter prep for my truck and used DP Poli-Coat Paint Sealant, which was also something new I tried. Then I topped it off with Collinite. From reading all the tip and such, I had no problems applying or removing it. I admit I was hesitant/concerned at first using so very little of this product, but I used it as everyone recommended. Let me tell you, I was just so amazed at how AWESOME, it made my black truck look. My only regret after applying this stuff, was that I hadn't started using this stuff earlier. Like I said this was the winter prep for my daily driver truck. Next spring when I do a more in-depth/longer detail on my truck to remove some paint imperfections, I hope/expect great result.

People at work as me what I used and I tell them. One guy said he just had to touch my truck because the finish looked so good, lol.

Well I finally took the plunge on this Collinite 845 and it was worth it! If you are on the fence with this stuff, give it a try. But also as Mike Phillip's has said find what works best for you and use it. Everyone will have their own opinion. If you do try it, follow their advice, a little goes a long ways and thin is in!

Thanks:dblthumb2:

Now I'm gonna go look at my truck and make sure there is no bird crap on it!

How long do I have to wait to top 845 with a carnuba??

845 IS a carnuba. Are you saying you want to top it with another one?

OK I converted. I did my son's car as my ride was just done a few weeks ago.

I did do my own windows all around though. Put it on very thin. Can't believe how easy it was to apply and remove. Heated it up in the AZ sun for 5 minutes to a liquid. Washed my car and the windows absolutely repelled water and beaded right off. Can't wait to see how long it lasts.

Mine is in the mail. After seeing all the threads recently on it I had to try it. Hope the temps pick back up so I can try it. Probaly not good to apply it in 50 or less temps.

This may sound counter-intuitive, but if it's getting really cool you might be better off applying it in the sun. The sun will warm up the surface of the vehicle and it will keep the product warmer too.

I live in roughly the same area you do, and have one more car to winterize. I can't get to it until the Veterans day weekend, so I'm a little worried about temps too. It might be a REALLY cold wash.

I really like Collinite 845...I just wish they would do something about that solvent smell. It takes away some of the joy of waxing my car. I'll continue to use it though. That's probably the only reason I use other waxes sometimes.

Did mine today. Polished with ultimate polish and then collinite on top. Took longer than probaly normal because trips were cooler but ask seemed to be fine. About 50 degrees. Really how I put it on right. It said thin. Some places looked lie it didn't have any stuff on it at am but when I did the window test it had product on the pad. Soled with my da.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum I love the manly smell.

Agree. When I'm in the garage working on cars, I like the smell of engines, steel, and solvents. The fruity smell of most products these days does nothing for me.

I think the 845 smells like turpentine. On the other hand, I like the smell off 915 Marque D'Elegance. It reminds me a little bit of DP MaxWax which I like the smell of a lot.

One problem I commonly encounter here in the desert southwest is dust.
And I mean bad!

Very rare, that in as little as 12 hour's time, my car doesn't look like total ass.

I've used Colly products now for decades, of course always knew they were all really great, and had little peer.

But, with a recent #845 layer on my Kia about 2 weeks ago, I noticed my car seemed to be staying a bit cleaner looking as time was passing.

And this is in comparison to about a dozen other products that have been on the car in the past two years such as WGDGPS 3.0, Menz Powerlock, Optimum Opti-Seal, DP Coating, CP Reload, WG Liquid Seal, UPGP, Duragloss, DG Aquawax, etc etc.

Sort of odd, one would "think" a Nuba-Hybrid would maybe be more susceptible to attracting dusts.

I'm not slamming any of you about smell but "it is what it is", that's what I like about Collinite products, no gimmicks and goofy names, just a quality product where it counts most:cool:

That said, its not like it smells like DUB wheel cleaner but as far as that product goes, IT WORKS!

Oh the humanity!!!!! Reminds me of when my two year old son knocked over my Chemical Guys Black Wax newly bought onto the white picket fence. The wax dyed the paint in some places. Sticks are not allowed in the yard no more!

my bottle of collinite 845 can't be closed properly using it's cap.
when it almost closed - it skips all and the bottle is open, so air getting into the bottle.
should i worry? it would dry?

You LIKE that smell? :eek::doh:

OTOH, along the lines of "fruity smells". Bill @ Duragloss recently told me to try and mix their Quick Wash & Shine 75:25 with AquaWax. Both smell rather pleasant, but mixing both, ANNNNNNNNDDDDDD applying them inside a closed garage is.... is..... shall we say "overpowering"! (I'm willing to bet they could cut back on the scent a good 30%~50% and be just fine with it.) :dunno:

In what motion do we apply the wax? Some say circular while others say straights.

What are you opinion/recommendation?
