I finally got around to waxing my new winter wheels with Collinite 845. I put on a thin coat, and just left it on thinking I'll buff and put on another coat before I get the tires mounted in a few weeks.

Other than it being a little more difficult to buff, is there any issue with waiting a few weeks to buff the wax?

Thanks!

Unbuffed wax will attract more dirt than buffed wax. Unless you keep your wheels in a sealed container that keeps out dust, you will need to clean the wheels again before adding another coat.

So you're going to wait a few weeks, buff it off and then put another application on? Buff it now.

That was the plan--just ran out of time/energy last night to buff them, so tossed them up onto the rack and put the cars away.

What's the downside to waiting? I wouldn't do this if they were on the car, because they'd look nasty, but sitting on the rack seems like it'll be fine. Not too worried about dust--that will come off when I buff them after I take them back down and before I apply another coat.

I just think your second "layer" will be more effective if you buff the first one off now, seems like it will have more "cure" time. But given your scenario, what you're doing seems fine.

I am concerned that there is additional risk of scratching if he buffs the wax off weeks later, due to the dust and dirt accumulating on the rough and tacky surface of the unbuffed wax. That is why I suggested he would clean it first, like by using a waterless wash or at least a detail spray to carefully remove the unbuffed was after a couple weeks.
I think it best to buff now, then re clean and apply another coat in two weeks.

Ok, I may get motivated tonight and buff them after work. It won't take long, just a hassle of moving cars, etc. Thanks.

Is this wheel wax as good on wheels as the 845 is on paint?
