Color Matching SNAFU

Luckily, this hasn't happened to me but a friend recently had some collision repair work done and the paint matching looks pretty bad. Of course, the auto shop won't deal with it but I was wondering if there's any wax or anything like that which could at least somewhat distract from a subpar color matching? I know it's a long shot but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Sounds like the car was "panel" painted. Blending to an adjacent panel is something which needs to be done for more of a seamless repair

provide enough distraction, that a
mismatched paint respray would
be either partially, or otherwise,
hidden from view.

My friend's getting her insurance company involved but the auto shop is doing a run-around saying that this is the closest match possible. I think you're right, they just painted the one panel.

Totally unacceptable. I would demand that they fix the bad paint match! If they still refuse I'd be filing with BBB and calling the AG's office to see what recourse, if any, is available.

You're all correct but I have to wonder about the quality in the first place. Sometimes it's better to cut and run. I've never met a reputable painter that would not blend panels especially hoods and fenders. I'd like to know more information like the color of the car, pearls or flakes, age of the paint, factory or repaint etc. With the info provided I'd be tempted to stay away from them. Last thing you need is for them to mess up two more panels doing a blend.

AND no wax, sealant or coatings isn't going to change the color. If it's important get it done right.
