ColorX for detailing

Hello, just wanted to know if some of you guys use ColorX for your detailing jobs/career? Is D151 better than ColorX for detail work? Thanks!
 
•Even though ColorX is a very good AIO/Cleaner-Wax...
I feel it's geared more toward the Consumer market.

•D151 is also a very good AIO that, although can be...and has been...used by all arenas of detailing, was formulated for---and thusly geared more towards---the production detailing industry.


Note:
Of course it doesn't hurt to have both products in the Shop.

ColorX is the Consumer version of D151 in the Professional line. It's a very good cleaner/wax.

The above article is worth reading if you're a detailer. Most people and that includes most detailers don't know much about the history of cleaner/waxes or what some call an AIO and I touch on it in the above article.

For what it's worth and AIO and a Cleaner/Wax are the same thing. Just different names for the same thing.

An AIO or Cleaner/Wax, (choose the name you like best), does three things,

  1. Cleans/Corrects
  2. Polishes
  3. Protects
Does all this in one step.

I thought that ColorX was the equivalent to M66 in the professional line?

I was going to say that I've used it, (and use M66 a lot, which I thought was essentially the same thing) and it works well. M66 is cheap by the gallon and is a good option for customers who don't really have high expectations and just want their car "clean and shiny." M66/ColorX is extremely easy to use as well as you can easily apply to the entire car and then go around and very easily wipe off the entire car. I've never had any issues with ease of use. Good luck with it!

I'm pretty sure ColorX uses the same type of SMAT technology that D151 uses.

If I'm not mistake the cousin to M66 is M06 in the Professional Line and a distant course would be Meguiar's Cleaner/Wax in the Consumer Line.


I worked for Meguiar's for 11 years but even for me there's so many products and dedicated lines plus formulas are always updated when new technology is available.

Mike Pennington, Michale Stoops or Jason Rose would all know for sure....

I've used a lot of ColorX the past couple of years. Great product. I also have M66, which seems more "concentrated" in it's efficiency, and performance.

I though I had read the A12 cleaner was, and m06 were related, as ColorX and m66 were as well?
 
Thanks Mike, have you used colorx for profit making? I ask because i'm looking at getting colorx for my detailing jobs.

D151.....128oz. @ $33.99
ColorX.....16oz. @ $8.99

Considering the above numbers:
I know what my choice for a more
profitable detailing Business would be.

I think I charged this guy $400.00 about 10 years ago....

Here's a 1947 Plymouth Coupe I did a two step too years ago using ONLY a one-step cleaner/wax and then topped with what is more or less a finishing wax, originally had some light cleaners in it, it's been reformulated a few times so I don't know the current status of the product but since it's sold and marketed as a retail product the the average "Joe Consumer" then by default it needs to have some level of cleaning to create a visual difference to a "Daily Driver" or the customer will be unhappy. Keep in mind the average "Joe Consumer" doesn't know half of what people that hang out on detailing discussion forums know.


I rubbed this car out by hand on purpose to show what could be done by hand even though I had electric polishers at my disposal. It actually takes less talent and skill to use a tool like a DA Polisher than it does to work by hand....


Here's what ColorX did by hand to a 1947 Plymouth Coupe,

First we removed the white paint overspray using Meguiar's Quik Clay System now replaced with Smooth Surface Clay Kit.

Then applied one hand application of ColorX followed by one hand application of NXT Tech Wax Liquid

I did this car back when ColorX first came out, I saw the car right before I moved from California to Florida and it still looked great. (Taught the owner how to maintain the paint)

Oh my gosh what a work of art! Thank you for your help Mike, I think I'm pretty sure I'll include ColorX as my one stepper.
 
Colorx is nice but why not get white wax if you are going to stay in the consumer side of things. It has Meguiar's SMAT abrasives in it. Michael Stoops over on the Meguiar's forum has stated that white wax has the same abrasive technology as M101.

If you are going to go through a lot of an AIO product then invest in D151 or M66 (which is closely related to colorx). D151 will give better correction.
 
^^ Exactly. D151 has better correction and cuts faster, which is important when time is money.

Add to that the fact that it comes in bulk at a much cheaper price per oz, and it's a no-brainer IMO.
 
Guz, it seems you like white wax. Just bought some and am anxious to give it a try. Seeing if it will unseat hd speed as my favorite AIO. Will be topping with UPW.

Colorx is still a favorite of mine. Easy to use and good results.
 
White wax is good stuff. I just don't like the tube packaging. I transferred it over to a squeeze bottle. I would be curious to hear your thoughts on comparing it to HD Speed.
 
Well I live in Manila and the professional products are hard to find. Well I havent looked at White Wax will definitely look into it since my local hardware carries it.
