Hello everyone. Fairly new guy on here but been in the detailing game for a year or so now. Have a porter cable 7424xp and a flex dual action.

I have used 3M, Malco, Automagic, Meguairs, and Chemical Guys. Just ordered a 3-pack of compound/polish from autogeek by menzerna.

I ordered the MEN-3000 kit. It includes Power Gloss S34A, Power Finish PO 203, and Super Finish (Nano) PO 106 FA.

I have V32 (heavy compound), V34 (med compound), V36 (medium polish), and V38 (light finishing polish) from Chemical Guys.

I have read great things about Menzerna and was wondering if anyone who has used both Chem Guys and Menzerna could help me place the three new products I bought in-between the 4 existing Chem Guys products I have in terms of aggressiveness. It would greatly help me out.

Thanks in advance and happy holidays! :buffing:

There is a polish agresiveness chart on this site. May be woth a look. Can't hurt. Do a search. I.m not qualified to recommend any products, i'm not detailer. Someone will offer some advice.

Are these old Menzerna polishes? The numbers are out dated.

I'm not aware that they are old, I could be wrong though. The numbers listed on the OP's post match up with the numbers listed on the updated chart. Care to explain further?

I think he's saying the "PO" numbers are out of date. When you look at the listing in the AGO store, they have both the "SF" or "PF" like numbers, but also "PO" numbers, yet the lables on the bottles themselves are the "SF", "PF", etc. It drives me looney trying to get through the alphabet soup on that page.

Reading old posts on the products, I've gathered they did a renumbering of their product line a while back.

Well besides aggressiveness, menzerna is oil based and CG is water based. Just in case you are wondering too :)

Ok, now I understand what you're saying. Sorry for the confusion RSurfer. I too agree having two different product listing numbers can be quite confusing!

So is there a difference in how these work? (longer/shorter work time, more/less dust, etc.) Will it leave a residue that I should wipe off with something before sealing?

I have used the Menzerna 400,2500,4500 and they fabulous. If u want pure shine u need the 3. But u can get away without the 4500 if u choose a good polishing pad. Will re order these when I need more. 400 smells like chemical or gas to me. Lol

Do you really need 400? I feel as though 1000 would be enough. I have V34 which is comparable to 1000 and I don't really know why I would need anything more abrasive than that unless the car was DESTROYED! Additionally I am getting 4000 which is the same in terms of V38 and don't really see the need for anything more fine than that.

Friends I have spoken to recommend 1000, 2500, and 4000. Very rarely do I hear a need for anything other than those. But please let me know if you guys have found a real use for something in the middle or on the extreme ends....

Oil based polish tend to dust, like meguiars 105. Working time i think isnt really affected by the substance base. 105 working time is very short compared to PG 1000 and both are oil based. Oil based tend to cut waterspot or watermarks easily than water based.

Sealing with a wax or sealant, no need to care about residue. Sealing with a paint coating is different. Whatever base your polish is, need always to strip just to make sure.

My understanding is that the PG1000 will not finish down anywhere near as well as FG400 - I purchased a bottle of PG1000 and have never used it as FG400 cuts better and finishes better.

Of course if FG400 is required or not will be very dependent on the paint type you are working on (hard/soft etc)

I find that Fg400 followed by SF4000 is an awesome combo, or alternatively PF2500 on its own as a one step.

I hate to bring up an old thread, but I just had to comment on this.

As of this weekend, I have thrown my 32 oz bottle of v38 away. Like others have said, it is water based- I don't know if I received a bad batch or what, but my v38 reminds me of Vitamin D milk in consistency and is just difficult to apply to a pad.

I replaced this with Monzerna FP4500 and apply to a black/grey pad. The working time is higher and I just feel it does a better job (the trade off compared to the milk is worth the price difference).

The downside is that you still need to wash your car when you're done with this step as it leaves a residue before proceeding with either your glaze or lsp.

I thought someone else out there might want to hear from a CG lover that found an alternate product that is better for this polishing stage.

I used SF4500 on a few spots on my car this weekend. Really clears the paint surface up, I am a huge fan thus far. Can't wait to use it on my whole car. I used it with a Crimson HydroTech Lake Country pad, 5.5". I have lots of black pads so before I do my whole car, I will do test spots and compare Crimson vs. Black pads.

I also used PF2500 this weekend too, it order to fix scratches. Man, that product is awesome. Used it with an LC orange pad and it got some serious scratches up. I was really happy. One scratch was really stubborn so I had to use M105 w/ orange pad to shaved more clear off to even out a 3-4" long dealer imposed scratch by the gas cap cover.

How many section passes did you do w/ SF4500? Both PF2500 and SF4500 flashed at about pass 4-5, and I would work it 6 passes to be sure it was fully broken down.

My v38 that I bought a couple months ago is nice and thick, pretty much just like pf2500 as far as consistency. If your v38 is like milk, I would return it.

Boo4Osu chemical guys ended up having a bad batch of V38 that had a consistency that was way too runny. If you call them up and tell them something's wrong with it they will send you a new bottle no questions asked. It has happened to me and they did not hesitate to send me a new one!

Since menzerna is oil based I need to clean up if I were to apply a paint coating. What if I wanted to just apply a wax or sealant? Would I need to wipe down with IPA solution?

I used 3 passes on high another 2 low and 1 more on high

I will do in the AM. Thanks for that info!

I performed a foam canon wash and a pat dry method to get rid of the residue. I don't like there being any possible contamination between the paint and the next layer after polish.
