Compound/Glaze/Polish Shootout

As a noobie to all this I would like to say THANKS. The more I see vids and threads like this, the more I feel I will enjoy it.

Great review, well staged, and a good variety of products!

Thanks for taking the time and energy to provide your insights, great job!:goodpost:

They will let you know in a heartbeat what oils to use in you automobile but when you ask what abrasive technology to use on your paint they look at you like you just stepped out of a space ship.

I understand that 85% of the people out there don’t see what we see or they don’t even care until it comes time to sell, trade or just plain have their eyes opened.

Craig

I totally agree with the highlighted section above Craig! I mean, ask what paint system the factory uses and you'll get blank stares. It's not like there are hundreds!

For instance the top ten, and their 2012 sales.

1. AKZONOBEL (NED) $ 17,05 billion
2. PPG Industries (U.S.) $ 12,54 billion
3. Sherwin-Williams (U.S.) $ 7,84 billion
4. DUPONT (U.S.) $ 5,05 billion
5. BASF (GER.) $ 4,53 billion
6. RPM Inc (U.S.) $ 3,41 billion
7. Diamond Paints (U.S.) $ 3,32 billion
8. SACAL (U.K.) $ 3,28 billion
9. VALSPAR (U.S.) $ 3,22 billion
10. Nippon Paint (JPN) $ 2,63 billion

It would be of great interest to the detailing world, not to mention the professional refinishing world to know the exact product that has been used on a given car, from a given plant.

To be able to not only do paint correction, but have on-hand the products that the factory used that were designed to be used with that system. Considering the "value added" factor for the professional, (not to mention us little guys) it would be a win-win. Adding to that it would be easier not just to keep it at it's best as a well maintained paint finish over the life of the vehicle, but would likely help resale value(s).

Back to the body shop thing...
Time and time again the biggest problem people have with crash repair is not the quality of the repair itself, but the paint as generally it's something where the color or finish just isn't the same as OEM.

Knowing what (little) I do about body shop paint systems they are prohibitively expensive, primarily I suspect because you need it over and above what it actually costs to produce. That being said, it would seem easy enough to have 3~4 systems in a first class shop and advertise your services highly (if not completely) towards vehicles that use the exact same paint systems.

And down of the soapbox I fall..... ;)

Thanks guys! I had fun doing it but it did take quite a while to put together. I wish there was a drag-n-drop interface fo rthe uploads to autogeek!

Great review. Its people like yourself that make these forums enjoyable and informational. Pat yourself on the back. Kudos

I have never EVER been disappointed with the WG twins. I always get consistently good results. I will have to try the BF products at some point....but it will be more for curiosity than for necessity.
